Day trip to Salida for some shopping and lunch in historic downtown Salida, CO.  The town of Salida is located about 125 miles southwest of Denver and is a 2-1/2 hour drive.  Plan on a full day arriving back to the carpool location around 5pm.

We'll spend the day in the charming downtown area of Salida, CO - the largest historical downtown district in Colorado!  It's home to blocks of Victorian buildings with fantastic restaurants, inspiring galleries, tempting boutiques, outdoor sports stores, and an array of shops for kitchen, kids, books, knitters and quilters.  It’s a great place to stock up or find a unique gift to take home!

Carpooling:  Meet me at 7:30am in the free parking lot at The Fort located off US Hiway 285 and the Morrison Exit, where we'll form some carpools.  This will be an all day event so coordinate your plans with carpoolers.  Add a note to your RSVP (not the comments below) if you want to carpool from The Fort.

Parking in Salida:  There is street parking or public lots around town.

Where to Meet the Group in Salida:  Meet me at 10am at the Simmering Cup Coffee House located at 105 F Street in Salida, where we'll grab a coffee, form some shopping groups and decide on a lunch spot.

Lunch around 12:30-1pm at either Amica's Brewery or The Fritz, both located in downtown Salida.  Please add a note to your RSVP (not the comments below) if you want to join us for lunch.

The Weather:  Who knows if it will be snowing or not - in any case, dress for the weather in Salida (not at your home).  Wear good traction shoes in case it's snowy/icy.

Directions to Salida:  Follow US 285 South towards Fairplay, CO.  Keep left on US 285 South/US 24 West towards Salida.  Turn left on CO 291 South into Salida.  Turn right onto F Street and find parking in the vicinity.

Let's hope for great weather and dry roads so we can do this!

See you there!

There aren"t any words strong enough to describe the weekend I had with this group of people except absolutely awesome, beautiful and heartwarming. I have wanted to do this road trip loop for many years, more than I can remember. Started on HWY 285 southbound and ended up in Frisco via Leadville. We found all the Collegiate Peaks: Yale, Columbia, Harvard and the lady herself Mount Princeton. Debbie took us on a journey which will forever be branded in my memory. It was a perfect day, very warm with skies bluer than anyone could ever imagine. As I entered Leadville and saw God's watercolors sitting behind Mount Elbert and Mount Massive in my rear view mirror I knew I had been in paradise and another palmprint left by God. Thanks Debbie, Linda, Annette and my friend Dan H. I couldn't think of anyone else I would have wanted to do this trip with.

It was a great day in the Banana Belt - Salida Blue sky, sunshine and nice views of Mt. Princeton and the Collegiate Peaks. Had a great lunch and local brew at Amicas Brewery. Couldn't believe the fog and ice in Conifer and Aspen Park!

Good morning everyone from the beautiful town of Buena Vista, Colorado!!! It is 6:30 am!!! I've been here since 10 am yesterday!!! The temperature is a nice 25 degrees but will get warmer as the day goes on. I can't wait until you see Mount Princeton. The roads are clear with no snow or ice. Be careful coming down Kenosha Pass as the winds were heavy duty. If you get hungry before coming into Salida there's a small restaurant out of Fairplay which makes really good breakfast burritos! The place is called South Park Bar and Grill it actually has a bowling alley in it. The burritos were so good that 3 miles down the road I turned back and got another. Have a safe and wonderous journey!!! Debbie is sending you folks into paradise. I hope you're ready to experience one of the palmprints of God. Don't be late!!!
