Introduction to jQuery

Nolan Erck will get us started using the jQuery JavaScript library for client-side development.  We'll get a more complete summary up here later.

This will also be our semi-annual prize drawing night. We'll be raffling off a 1-year Adobe Creative Cloud subscription after the presentation.

From Nolan's blog:

Nolan Erck has been developing software professionally for more than 14 years, starting in the video game industry as a Tools Programmer advancing to web development in 1999. He has worked on high profile projects for LucasArts, Maxis, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, Schools Credit Union, and Alive N Kicking Magazine among others. His list of credits includes Grim Fandango, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, SimPark, and SimSafari, as well as high-traffic websites for a variety of technology based companies.

Nolan currently co-manages the Sacramento ColdFusion User Group and is an active member of the Web Developer community, giving presentations on Object-Oriented Programming and Web Development for groups across Northern California. Nolan is also certified in Adobe ColdFusion, and is an in-demand consultant, providing training and development experience for a variety of companies.

When he's not consulting or talking about himself in the third person, Nolan can usually be found working on one of several music projects.

Thanks Nolan - I hadn't realized JQuery was more than just for databases.

Nolan is always generous to drive down from Sacramento to enlighten us - I have avoided jQuery for years but tonight he made it interesting enough for me to look back into it and I look forward to more in January - the Summit Round Table was super to be informed for those of us who were not able to attend this year. Thanks for the Pizza Carl!

I learned a lot, but I knew pretty much nothing about jQuery … Nolan was good.

If you've RSVP'd for Tuesday, but won't be able to make it after all, please update your status. There are many folks on the wait list that would appreciate an opening. Also, it'll help me get a god head count for pizza. Thank you!

Good news! We can accommodate more people in the room than we thought, so I've increased the number of openings. If you were on the wait list, you should be able to update your RSVP now. Hope you all can make it!

Since Nolan, myself, James Moberg, and Michael Woods were all able to attend the ColdFusion Summit last week, would people be willing to stay after the main presentation and prize drawing to listen to a roundtable discussion of our recollections and feelings from the conference program?

If there is enough interest, we will try to start the jQuery presentation closer to 6PM to make more time. Typically we reserve the first 30 minutes for networking and chatting and start presentations at 6:30pm.

    Please let me know. Thanks!

Heck yes - that would be really great to listen to your roundtable discussion of what went on in Las Vegas.
