In answer to high demand and interest, here is a winter yurt trip! There is a $10 fee for this trip. This is the easiest yurt to access in the Lily Lake BRORA yurt system. Meeting times will be 9am for SLC, or 11:30am at the TH if you are not coming from SLC or do not wish to carpool. Further details coming soon.
This will be an overnight stay in the East Fork Yurt in the High Uintas, with 1.5 miles of groomed trail to cover, nearly flat (each way). The pace will be social and the difficulty is easy (by mountain standards). There are options for side trips and excursions and I plan to have one sled along for play. Ski or snowshoe are both just fine. I will be bringing both.
There are 8 bunks in the yurt, and hopefully we can get a full group, however, it is a weekday trip. We shall see. Weekend nights are booked through April, highly competitive, and more expensive. Also I don't get Fridays or Saturdays off in Jan without a fight.
We can check into the yurt 2:30pm on Monday and must check out by 2:00pm on Tuesday. I want to stay most of that time, but some may want to head out and drive home earlier to get back to work or school or home earlier on Tuesday. The yurt is stocked with firewood (chopping required), a wood stove, cooking pots, and the bunks, but no linens or utensils. There is an outhouse, but we must pack our own toilet paper. More details and specifics after I get the info packet by mail.
I have a couple tentative confirmations from people outside this meetup group, so there are 6 open RSVPs listed here (for now). RSVPs close 3 days out because I must submit info for all group members to the Evanston Ranger and Park District before the trip.
I am intending that dinner will be a pot luck. More details on dinner to come later, as it gets closer and I see how many are likely going.
Cancellation Policy: I am setting this trip up to not offer refunds- as long as the trip takes place. Please be sure before you book. If you cancel then you have made a $10 donation to the group. It gets too demanding with constant shuffling of the roster in the final week, and I don't want to be out money because people cancel last minute. If this seems unfair to you, then don't sign up and I will see you on one of the group's many free trips! Trip is on regardless of weather, barring some apocalyptic storm. More fresh snow means more "fun".
Sleeping bag rated to 20 degrees F or lower, eating utensils, beverages and food of choice, change of clothing, footwear for inside, snowgear, waterproof pants or gaitors
More details as the trip gets closer and I read through the extensive info packets.
