I was daydreaming about this coast hike (link above). The “trail” doesn’t sound easy and there is a significant shuttle so one idea is to do it from 3rd beach to toleak point camping area on a Sat. and then camp and day hike further for those inclined then go back to third beach trailhead on Sunday. That might make less an epic. I was thinking maybe weekend of the 25th in hopes the weather would at least warm up 5-10 degrees. Would anyone be up for this? Being a newbie to this meetup group and never having hiked the Olympic coast trail I am reticent to be the only organizer, and too others would need to drive as nobody could survive the auditory assault of my very noisy old sidekick. We could meet in Edmonds and then take the Ferry.
Any interest? If so how does one generate a “meetup” anyway? Guess this meetup’s organizers can answer that.
Here is a wider map. Zoom in to see overview of proposed backpack.
Yeah lets go. I am up for anything fri-sun if it is over
I'm actually going over to Ancient Lakes in Quincy right over the Cascades off I-90 tomorrow morning on an overnight backpack trip. It is snow free and I have had a few friends go over in the last week. Here are pictures and trip reports from a trip: http://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7973679
A few other friends went over to the Boulder River and the road is now snow free. The campsite at the end of the trail still has snow though, unless you don't mind pitching your tent on top of snow, should be melted in 2 weeks or so.
