This is an Intermediate Level trip
This is an abbreviated, less detailed, version of the trip itinerary. Some recent events dictate the precaution of not posting exact locations to a public webpage. The complete itinerary will be forwarded to you following an affirmative RSVP or by request.
Friday May 3rd
I am tentatively planning to hike about 8 miles in to the shelter hopefully starting around 1pm. If anyone else would like to do this part of the hike, please let me know. We can get a departure time nailed down as the trip gets a little closer.
For everyone else, there won’t be a set meeting time, instead arrive and hike in to the shelter as your schedule permits. The best parking option is about 1 mile from the shelter.
Saturday May 4th
The overall distance for the day will be 13 miles.
In the morning we’ll hike back to the parking lot and shuttle vehicles as necessary. This will also be an opportunity to replenish water, possibly swap out some gear and stash trash.
Our next stop will be for a lunch break about 2/3 of the way through the hike. There is a well and we will have the opportunity to replenish water. Following the break we’ll continue on to the shelter.
Being the eve of Cinco de Mayo, we’ll continue our traditional taco bar meal. Like I’ve done in the past I’ll get all the fixings, place them in a cooler and make sure they end up in a vehicle near the shelter. This group meal is optional and if you wish to participate it usually ends up costing about $5 per person
Sunday May 5th
There are several options for the hike out, 1, 4 and 11 miles. We can position cars at the first or second lot and shuttle as necessary.
The shelters do have a pit toilet/outhouse. There is no water source at the shelter. I’m anticipating most people will be bringing a tent but there is also room on the benches in the shelter. Please post a note if you plan to stay in the shelter. I’m not budgeting for any firewood but we should be able to scavenge enough for a nice fire
Average temperatures for this time of year -- Hi 65F, Low 40F
This trip will take a little more coordination and shuttling than usual with multiple entry and exit points and a taco meal to position ahead of time.
