Small Group Gear Shakedown

With the Gov. Dodge Trip coming in the following weeks, I thought it would be a good time to post a gear shakedown to give you the opportunity to go over your gear and ask questions in a small group setting before we head out -- this shakedown is open to anyone, though -- not just those going to Gov Dodge.. :)

We'll go over every item in your pack together to make sure you have all the basic necessities and get ideas for what you may need, to make sure you're as safe and comfortable as possible. Even if you have all the gear you need, but would like to go over it to find ways to maybe lighten up, this is a good time to do that.

There are a lot of gear choices out there no one correct answer, but perhaps this will help make you feel better about your choices or gather some ideas.

Please bring your entire kit and we'll go through everything together, Max 4 people. We'll meet near the Shelter at Riverside park.

Hi Gary. Another organizer just let me know he'd be willing to come help. I'm going to change your reservation to +1 to accommodate your wife.

Still sporting my external frame backpack I bought 36 years ago. Must be something more up-to-date by now. Digital?!?

There are a few guys in the group that still use them, and if you are comfortable with it and it holds all of your stuff then you don't really need to change it up. If you do decide to buy a new bag, a good outfitter will measure you for fit and give you some time to walk around the store with some weight in the bag before you buy it.

Ken's Gear list is a really good place to pretest yourself on things you might need. http://files.meetup.com/726779/Fox%20Cities%20Backpackers%20Meetup%20Suggested%20Gear%20List.pdf
