Introduction

I need my fix of smart people...or at least knowledgable people...or at least creative people. Seems like this might be the right crowd of weirdos.

What are your political views?

Anarchist / libertarian socialist / wannabe apolitical but can't in good conscience.

If you were banished to a tropical island, and a lucky mutation caused the monkeys to invent a primitive form of internet access, what websites would you go to get your news about the outside world?

Wikipedia and wikipedia. Maybe Democracy Now! on occasion. More likely, I wouldn't worry about the outside world; I'd just set up my own little world on the island.

How many books did you read last year?

Books are so passé--Wikipedia is where it's at. And podcasts. Oh, and The Teaching Company audio lecture series. Okay, I did actually read some science fiction and a few books about writing IIRC...oh, and a book about the history of the German language....I'm perpetually halfway through a good two dozen books. Among those currently in the queue are Road to Reality, Gödel-Escher-Bach, Year's Best SF 13, Kirinyaga.

What's your passion?

Too many to name. My main obsession is with languages these days--though in the past I've mainly been a science geek (I worked at a science museum since I was 17, got my degree in geology) but I'm an extreme xenophile... love learning about obscure people, places, cultures, types of music, foods, etc, etc, etc, I pick up new skills whenever I can. Currently learning juggling, accordion, fire breathing, novel-finishing. Also: words... love words... love em.
