First week of a new four week course of Tango. We will be doing mainly Ballroom tango, but also some beginners argetenean tango, so that students can experience the differences in posture, hold and style, and indeed help them to decide if they would like to take up the Argentinean tango at the excellent nearby long established school which does classes and social evenings in both Wimbledon and Balham.
Our teacher, Barry Gordon is a professional and experienced qualified instructor, who won many salsa events as a competitor. Barry places a lot of emphasis on doing the basics well- correct hold, good posture, ability to lead and follow, use of sway and contra body movement, the correct rise and fall and moving in time to the music. Generally his instructions are clear, simple and easy to understand.
Barry encourages our better students to create their own choreography rather than dance in set routines, and gives tips and help to individual dancers during the social practice half hour break sessions
We teach beginners from 5.30 pm to 7 pm, then tea and half an hour of social dance practice. Improvers is from 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm then more tea and social practice for half an hour until 9 pm. The intermediate class is from 9 pm to 10 pm.
The lessons start punctually, and students can stay as long as Barry thinks their level is good enough for them to be able to benefit from the lesson.
We have about equal numbers of men and women so newcomers don't have to bring a partner. We usually swap partners during the lessons, but you don't have to if you don't want to.
Cost is just £6 for the evening or £25 for the four week course, including tea. Any questions, e- mail George or phone me on[masked] 1490.
Barry also teaches a class in Balham every Friday night, at the Excelsior Club, where he teaches one of the same dances as during the lessons in Colliers Wood, so those who want to progress as rapidly as possible can attend two classes per week
