Sakura Matsuri - Parade and Street Festival

The street festival and parade are on the 10th ... this would be a nice event to go down to for those folks who can't make it on the 3rd. Here's the link to the event for that day ...
http://www.sakuramats... I'll be leaving around the same time on Saturday ... maybe a little earlier to get down for the parade in the morning. Thanks, Laz

I was definitely around later this afternoon, but neglected to take someone's number down before I left the house; so I missed out on meeting up :( Did anyone else catch Jonetsu Mary and the Shambon High School?! They rocked that little stage IMO!

I guess it pays to look at the map :) The street festival is all along Pennsylvania Avenue between 14th and 10th. We'll take the metro to the Federal Triangle Station and it's all right there ... here's a link to the Festival Map ..

There's lots of stuff going on. Definitely interested in the Sake tasting and the food :)

We can always walk over the Cherry Blossoms themselves near the Tidal Basin if we want to.

As maybe we can go down earlier than 10 am. The place was slammed with folks still coming to the festival at 2 pm ... so the earlier the better. I'll check with ATA to see what they have planned. Here's a link to the pics I took on the 3rd.

If you have a Metro pass, try to get enough $ on it before we get to Greenbelt. Even at 11 am it was packed with people getting Metro Passes. We can avoid that by being prepared. We'll grab the Green Line to the Blue Line and get off at the Smithsonian stop ... the Freer Gallery is right there (some Japanese art and clean bathrooms). It's a short walk towards the Washington Monument. If we get down before Noon we should be in good shape. I'll check the times for the parade.

I went down to DC on the 3rd and checked it out. If you're wanting to drive down with me from Baltimore, let me know.

There were plenty of spots under the trees if we'd like to bring a blanket and grab a spot. It's a bit of a long walk around the area where the trees are in bloom. There are food stands and porta-johns around the area ... the main area is between the Washington Monument and the Jefferson Memorial on the north side of the Tidal Basin. We could grab a spot there.
