Let's Go Bowling!

Bowling is fun. We should go bowling together. I think that about sums it up. :) Afterward, for those who are so inclined, Club Orpheus is hosting N-Code, a night of dancing to video game remixes. You can get the info from me during bowling, or you can head over to their
facebook site for the details. I hope to see many of you there! ^o^

Hey, someone texted me that night, and I totally missed it. Who was it (I only saw the number)? You asked how long we'd be at Mustang. As you can see by the reviews, we weren't able to do anything there.

It turns out Mustang Alley requires reservations to bowl on the weekends. So we didn't end up bowling. We instead went to Edo Sushi at the inner harbor, ate dinner and hung out, and it was fun. Alexander and I went to Orpheus afterward, which was also a mixed experience. We met some cool people, but it really feels like the people "organizing" N-Code just didn't really know what they were doing. The dance floor was mostly empty. The DJ (some kid) was mostly spinning ordinary, run-of-the-mill techno--I think I hear maybe one video game remix the whole night.

Still, it was worth showing up.

Who knew bowling could be so classy?! Lol. Still it was great to see you guys again and it was nice to meet at least one new face.

Yeah, this is some turnout! We're going to be taking up a few lanes!

I'll try to remember to bring a camera, it'd be a good idea to snap a few photos for the group (especially since it seems like we're going to have a large turnout this time). Hopefully someone will bring a back-up camera in case I forget.

Huh...me having reservations?? Um...as I said I think we should hold off on this until next month. It's getting close to christmas and since we got a meetup for new year's I figured we'd take it easy on our wallets right now. ....unless, you and others want to do this on the 18th anyway.

Since it's your idea, and since you have reservations about doing it this month (I was just going to make it for Saturday the 18th), I'm going to create a template and, with your permission, make you organizer, Brian. What do you think?

Um....there's one problem. When exactly would this event take place? This month? Considering christmas is only a few weeks away...perhaps we should hold off on this right now until janurary.

Well, we have a good place for bowling (Mustang Alley), so let's focus on bowling for now and worry about skating later.

I think dinner + bowling and hanging out is a pretty good night of activities.

Can someone with Admin capabilities make the event please? That way we can give people as much notice as possible and start gauging interest.

Rudie pretty much said it about shake and skate. Now i remember being in that area not too long ago and it is not the cleanest area.

Yeah, I just heard the same thing from someone else. For bowling, I've also heard good things about Mustang Alley. I read it can be expensive, and if there's a good lower cost alternative I might prefer that (though I also read the food is good at Mustang Alley, so hmm...).

Roller skating. I'm really going to be relying on you guys for this since there doesn't seem to be much out there. I'd prefer wheels, since I work outside and am thus spending enough time dealing with the cold as it is.

I used to figure skate at Northwest (Falls Rd. b/w Coldspring and Northern Pkwy) but not sure if they've shut down. There is also Skateland, a similar all-inclusive establishment like Shake-and-Bake if I recall correctly (fond childhood memories of both). Again not sure if they're still open. Bowling alleys are everywhere including neighborhood joints like in Patterson Park/Highlandtown area. There's also Mustang Alley which is a bit upscale. Not certain abt the 18th as its the last day of class

Lol Shake and Bake!!! That is definitely a place from "the Springtime of my youth"! (Probably middle school for me as well Brian). To be honest gang, I don't think its your type of place -- for reasons beyond just music. I just don't see you guys being comfortable there. I've not been there in at least a decade, but the area itself hasn't changed much (not the safest or cleanest).

That's what mp3 players are for...in suituations like this. But this isn't about our taste in music, it's us going to this place and bowling or skating!!

Yeah, well, in my experience (admittedly limited to many years ago), that's a staple of roller skating music. You might just end up having to suck it up.

    Daryl,

That place plays way too much hip hop...well at least when I was there in middle school.

Anyone up to this on the eighteenth? Given how the carless among us are in Baltimore, I'm thinking a rink in Baltimore is our best bet, assuming there's a good one. The only place in Baltimore proper I'm seeing on Google Maps is a place called "Shake and Bake Family Fun Center". Aaand... I just did a search for bowling, and apparently Shake and Bake does that too. Has anybody been there? Does anyone know anything about it? If now, would anybody be up to joining me on a scouting mission?

We are open to new people :) Are there any roller skating rinks in the area? Bowling might be fun.

I thought the group was open to new people...

And why in the world would I bring non-anime fans to a Genshiken meeting?

You don't need to bring a cuple of people...especally non-anime fans.

Um, so, are we doing this? I'd be down if we did, and might even be able to bring a couple of people.

Bowling is fun; went a couple of times in grad school and loved it. I have no idea where any bowling alleys are, though.

I did say wheels too, right? But yeah, this would be a good idea...but I'd love to know why AMF is an evil company.

I haven't been skating in ages but I used to be good at it. Bowling, not so awesome at, but it's fun when in good company.

I dont know how to ice skate either =/ but would love to learn as well. Bowling is great too.

Both of these ideas are made of Awesome and Win. It's been years since I've done any of those things, and I think it's high time I get out there again.
