USE BOTH HANDS: A Rhythm Guitar Workshop with Tom McCarthy
Greetings for the New Year. I am honored to say that I have had some interest in doing another beginner's workshop for the group. Just as I was considering doing that, Judy Evans contacted me saying she would like to host a workshop again. So we think alike.
At the prior theory workshop, I took a poll of what people would like to see offered and also did some candid observation of people's technique. Both led me to believe we need to do a class on right hand technique. Or strumming/picky hand for you lefties.
Remember, when you play by yourself, you are the guitar player and the drummer.
We have set a date, so the class will be January 26th from 2:00 to 3:30. We will be able to accommodate 12 students. We ask that everyone who comes for the class be a beginner, as that is the level on which it will be taught. ONLY BEGINNER STUDENTS SHOULD SIGN UP FOR THIS FIRST SEGMENT OF THE DAY.
People in the class, please bring guitar, paper and pencil, music stands and folding armless chairs. People in the jam meeting, if you are going to play some complicated stuff, that is fine but please bring a chord sheet or two for people to follow along.
From 4:00 to 8:00 (see separate calendar item), we will open it up to 12 more people, for a jam and a pot luck food fest. Some of the class might stay on, and Judy's house can only accommodate so many people, so we are asking people to register only for one or the other (not both) so our count stays true. That would give us a maximum of around 24 people overall for the later jam, which is a good number for that house.
Hence, if you sign up for this workshop, please DO NOT sign up for the jam as well. Your RSVP here counts you toward the later jam.
I will update this soon, but wanted to get it on the schedule ASAP.
Thanks for asking me back, I look forward to working with all of you.- Tom McCarthy
