What level guitarist are you? (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert)

I started banging on a guitar in Junior High School in the 60s! I got real serious about becomming a better guitar player about 3 years ago and went back to the basics. When I stumbled onto the 5 basic pentatonic scale patterns my world changed! It was like stepping out into the light. I am a child of the 60's and I like all kinds of music. I consider myself an intermediate player, but I don't really know what that means. My blues and jazz playing old man would say, a "pro" is some guy with a gig bag who's more than 50 miles away from home! I'm a one-eyed musician hosting and playing open mic nights here in Rehoboth Beach , DE at the Ale House. I live in Lewes, DE as a semi-retired pirate. "I know every now and then, it's kind'a hard to tell, but i'm still alive and well" - Johnny Winter

Where did you find out about the Baltimore Guitarist Group? If from a member, please put their name.

I met Billy Libkey and his friend Mike, who are co founders of the BGG in a bar at the beach last spring. Billy and I started an Open Mic Nite at the Rehoboth Ale house last year. It is every Thursady nite at 8:00 PM here in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Come on down-the-shore hun! Stop in and hop up on the stage and play us a tune!

What is your favorite guitar that you own?

That is a very hard question to answer! Guitars are like tattoos! They each have their own special character and personality. You bought each one for a reason that takes you back to a time and place. Plus you have spent alot of time together over good and bad memories. I still have the first guitar I ever bought a Red Label Yamaha FG-180 " The poor man's Martin". Now I have Martin and a Taylor but they look good on the wall beside the FG-180. I am partial to Telecasters, I have several, Fender got it right the first time. I have a great Gibson Sheraton, a vintage Les Paul, a Firebird, a PRS, 14 in all plus two banjos. I guess it would be fair to say that my favorate guitar is the one I'm playing tonight. Love the one you're with!

What guitar do you wish you owned?

I have been working with an incredible local luthier and accomplished musician, Junior Wilson from Milford, Delaware building several custom instruments. We built a great stratocaster last winter and we are building a Tele from Swamp Ash and Maple and Ebony. My wishlist has turned to what I can create. I am joining another musician / luthier Scott Angelucci , also from Milford, DE this fall in a private workshop to build an accoustic guitar.

Who is your biggest guitar influence and why?

It's like an acceptance speach at the acadamy awards, you don't want to leave anyone out. I grew up listening to the radio non-stop except for when I was in school. I slept with the radio on all night long. My father was a professional musician, clarinet player for the US Navy Band and Head of the Woodwind Dept at the U.S. Naval School of Music. Our home was filled with music and strange smoke (incence?). You couldn't escape it. Steeped in classical, Rockabilly, Country, Blues and Rock N Roll , Elvis, Chuck Berry, Albert Lee, Johnny Winter, Chapin, Croce, Clapton, Richard Gilmore, Mark Knofler. I Have over 12,000 songs on 5 differrent hard drives, and I liked them all one at a time. I still take'm out and play with 'em!

Introduction

I've had a guitar in my hand since they walked on the moon! I like what music does to people, brings them together and greases the skids of life. I joined the BGG to meet others with a passion for music and love to play. Whatever it is I'm there!

What CRABBGRASS is saying about this Meetup Group

I am a member and co-organizer of the Rehoboth Beach Ale ouse Open Mic Night and pleased to be a member of BGG. Lots of BGG members get down here to the beach during the summer and I hope to draw some of those members to our OMN when they are here. Gives them something else to look forward to while on vacation or on a weekend trip.
