BarCamp Brisbane IV

For EVEN MORE barcamp greatness!

Usual Barcamp format - feel free to come and talk about anything you like, doesn't have to be IT, we always get a very diverse crowd so someone will listen!

Talks are limited to 20mins and we are going to be strict on time. Try and plan your talk to last 10 minutes so there is time for questions. We'll have a couple of projectors - so if you want to hook up your laptop to present, that's cool - just make sure you have a VGA output.

We are looking to have 2 formal areas with projectors and 1 informal area for round-table informal discussion. People can also form their own little groups at the bar or outside - up to you.

A few things that have been prearranged:

1. Speed networking is back, after much success last time
2. "show and tell" corner where you can bring anything that you want to show off. If you have anything commercial - it would be best if you show this here rather than taking up talk slots.
3. ipitch will be videoing all the talks on one of the streams and uploading to vimeo/utube. They will also be organising a short pitch session, where people can record their pitches for upload to http://ipitch.com.au...
4. DJ from Studio Promise has agreed to set up a free mini studio where people can have their professional photos taken for blogs/twitter/avatars/whatever they wish. Great opportunity to get yourself a decent shot!
5. Aaron Spence from Panedia has given us a load of books to give away, if anyone else has books to give away - please come along and we'll organise a freecycle area. Aaron will also probably also be taking some photos during the day.

Apart from that - the day is yours, so if you have any specific ideas bring them along and try them out. We normally finish about 4pm.

I'd like to do a talk on SEO but aren't sure whether to aim it at newbies or make it advanced. Any suggestions or maybe prepare for both and do the one that feels right on the day?

Michael, I'd love a talk aimed at newbies personally, and then im sure the Q&A at the end could get more in depth for the people already versed in SEO. Cheers

We've had a few talks on SEO in the past - so you might want to pick something else if you have something. Most people I know don't want to hear any more about SEO - I might be wrong there... just my gut feel. Not wishing to put you off... just might be good to try and craft something new into it so it's not just the standard SEO talk that many have heard before. my 2c.

I didn't get a chance to speak to all the people I met at the "speed networking" event. It would've been nice to have some level of follow-through for those as I felt there was some really good missed-opportinities.

sabs -some people who'd been before, many new faces too. new topics, good new insights. always great. love the barcamp format with the postit-note scheduling.

Awesome as always. Thanks to Paul & Steve and the sponsors for bringing people together to talk about interesting stuff...

It wasn't quite what I expected - and surprised that I had an expectation. Not a bad thing. Met some interesting people - a little dazzled by both the bright and inarticulate... refreshing. Having a corner that says "visually brainspaced peoples here!" would have given me a safe spot to retreat to every so often :) and perhaps I may have found something minutely intelligent to say. Scary.

Fewer people had come to talk and the talks by sponsors were more prominent although still of interest. The speed networking was excellent as usual and we need longer 'chat' periods and a space that does not interfere with the presentations.

Lots of varied interests - a mix of both business and technology people - all the components for success! Making new contacts was great.

Pretty well run, a good location, lots of interesting talks to listen to and interesting people to meet.

Everyone seemed to be fully engaged, with a large percentage staying right to the end, so that must equate to a successful day. I will drop an email to Paul and Steve about a couple of minor suggestions, and hope others will take the time to give you suggestions too if they have any.
