BarCamp Gold Coast VII

Usual Barcamp format - feel free to come and talk about anything you like, doesn't have to be IT, we always get a very diverse crowd so someone will listen!

We're going to try this at a new venue - the Gold Coast TechSpace. It's a great spot but will mean numbers are a bit limited.

Talks are limited to 10 mins in the morning and 20 mins in the afternoon and we are going to be strict on time. Try and plan your talk to last half of the time so there is time for questions.

A few things that have been prearranged:

  1. Coffee - there is a coffee shop and cafe right next door to us - so there WILL be coffee!
  2. Speed networking
  3. "show and tell" corner where you can bring anything that you want to show off. If you have anything commercial - it would be best if you show this here rather than taking up talk slots.
  4. There will be prizes. You need to be RSVPd YES to be eligable for a prize though
  5. Food is provided and is covered by entry fee (or Techspace membership).

Apart from that - the day is yours, so if you have any specific ideas bring them along and try them out. We normally finish about 4pm.

Here is the rough schedule but this is VERY subject to change - as that is what Barcamp is all about:

  • 10 Coffee - chat - setup
  • 10:30 Speed Intro
  • 11:00 Lightning Talks 1
  • 11:10 Lightning Talks 2
  • 11:20 Lightning Talks 3

  • 11:40 Lightning Talks 5
  • 11:50 Lightning Talks 6
  • 12:00 Lunch
  • 1:00 Talk 1
  • 1:20 Talk 2
  • 1:40 Talk 3
  • 2:00 Talk 4
  • 2:20 Break
  • 2:40 Talk 5
  • 3:00 Talk 6
  • 3:20 Talk 7

  • 4 end

If you are reading this and have NO IDEA what barcamp is - the wikipedia page is a good start.

There is also an article written on a Barcamp at Bond Uni and an associated factsheet.

Membership of the space starts at $5/month so this is a great opportunity to join! http://gctechspace.org/membership-signup-application-form/

I think the day went very well, especially considering the relatively minimal/highly refined amount of organising that went into it. I hope the other participants, especially newcomers, found the sessions as interesting as I did.

Not sure if you will see this in time but I won't need that lift back as I didn't end up attending

Damian, if you don't have a full car on the way back in the arvo can I cadge a lift back to a train station?
