Barcamp is tomorrow!
Please make sure you RSVP so we have a good idea of numbers.... so far
we have over 100 yes replies. Based on previous numbers, we usual get
a peak of about 150% of the RSVPs so we will probably be at our
capacity of 150 at some point during the day,
As an added incentive to RSVP - we have quite a few prizes to give
away on the day. Inspired by Nigel's idea for the JS meetup prize I
have made the executive decision to pick the names FROM THE RSVP LIST.
So if you haven't RSVPd (or you RSVPd and you aren't there) you will
NOT get the free stuff!
Our meeting point is the D block covered courtyard next to Artisans
and the Labs. We will use this for Morning and Afternoon Tea, Lunch
and our speed networking event. The rest of the talks will be in the
rooms on the 5th floor of B Block - right next door. We will also
probably have some things happening on this floor - but at the moment
I haven't planned to have anything there until we find out if there
are any exams happening on the same floor.
I have setup a barcamp wave at http://j.mp/bcwav... with a rough agenda
and a place where people can make notes throughout the day. There will
be signup sheets for the talks on the wall in the courtyard - we will
move them up to L5 once we start.
We will put up posters with details on all the QUT maps and also
probably some stuff at South Bank Station and on the Goodwill bridge,
so look out for the signs showing you the directions.
If you are arriving by Train, South Bank is probably your best bet. Go
up the Ramp from the station (not the underground exit) and turn left.
You should see the Goodwill foot-bridge ahead of you crossing the
river to QUT. Once you are over the bridge (watch for cyclists on the
bridge - particularly Mr O'Keeffe and Rausch!) just follow your nose
to D block - following the signs for the City usually works. There's
also plenty of buses and you can also walk through the city from
Central and enter QUT via George/Alice St (where Parliament house is).
Barcamp starts at 10am with morning tea - but we'll be there from
about 9 if anyone wants to come early and help setup, chat and drink
coffee with us.
I have an area at Greystone at Southbank reserved for after drinks if
anyone is interested. They are putting on some free food for us and we
have a bartab if you need an extra incentive :-)
If you haven't been to a Barcamp before and don't know what to expect.
THAT'S COOL! Just come with an open mind and a willingness to
contribute in any small way. Remember Barcamp's motto is "No
Spectators, only Participants". There are plenty of odd jobs we need
helpers for during the day, so if you aren't doing anything, please
See you tomorrow
