Follow-up show to Tim Thompson & Space Palette at dorkbotsf-61 at Langton Labs

This is a follow-up to the recent hosting of Tim Thompson and his Space Palette at dorkbotsf-61 at Langton Labs.

I'm a computer musician, pianist & percussionist, and I also curate a series at a new house concert venue in San Francisco, Turquoise Yantra Grotto.

We're having Tim Thompson and the Space Palette at TYG this Fri 20 Jan (more info below), along with some other instrument inventors. (In fact, the venue is the house of an instrument inventor and has a number of site-specific invented instruments embedded in it.)

I thought people from the BArCMuT, dorkbot, and Langton Labs communities might want to know about this show and come out to see Tim Thompson and the Space Palette in concert performance mode. We're going to use its API to control live musicians as well as the Space Palette itself in the last piece.

Below is a brief write-up of the Tim Thompson/Space Palette show at our venue with pointers to more info & photos of the Space Palette.

Please feel free to forward and redistribute to whomever you think may be interested.

Our next extravaganza with Tim Thompson at Turquoise Yantra Grotto (7:30pm Fri 20 Jan 2012) =================================

Invented Instruments @ Turquoise Yantra Grotto (SF, 20 Jan): Tim Thompson’s Space Palette, Tom Nunn + Paul Winstanley (Opening Tea Music: Lasqo & Samas) More info at: http://joelasqo.com/b.... (will be the first blog entry)

The best of analog and digital invented instrument worlds - Tom Nunn's new duo + the latest incarnation of Tim Thompson's Space Palette straight from Burning Man & dorkbotsf-61.

In one of the pieces we plan to have volunteers from the audience use the same logical interface as the Space Palette to control live musicians - that should be interesting...

Turquoise Yantra Grotto is a unique space near Glen Park in San Francisco offering, in addition to a normal piano, site-specific invented instruments like the gamelan piano and zen industrial carillon — a cozy laboratory to explore the world chamber music of the future in an unexpected dialog between global roots traditions and modernist music.

As usual, on hand will be a shamanic healer and a neo-tea practitioner (our hosts) to facilitate your listening experience.

Planning continues for Wayang Turquoise puppet opera accompanied by the gamelan piano in the new year.

A scene like nowhere else...

Tix $12-$15, by advance reservation only. To reserve, send me an email at [masked], and I’ll confirm and send location and details. (Please note in case of allergies: Birds are present in the venue).

Best wishes for 2012!
