On August 23 at 7:45pm, Tuesdays at Tom's Place presents

Two silent films by David Michalak
                        with live music by
                      Thollem McDonas, piano
                      Gino Robair, percussion

Thollem McDonas, pianist/comproviser, was born and raised in the San
Francisco Bay Area. In the past 6 years he has added 19 albums to his
discography, working in diverse styles, with each album and every concert
exploring a variety of approaches and paths, resulting in dramatically
different outcomes. Currently he primarily plays his own composed and
improvised music. In 2010 he was invited to perform the late works of
Claude Debussy on the piano on which they were written, as well as his own
comprovisations with Stefano Scodanibbio. This is the first album (On
Debussy's Piano And ...) ever recorded on Debussy's piano.

This performance has Thollem performing a live score to David Michalak's
silent 16mm feature film Face of A Stranger, a film full of nightmares,
dreams and visions of a love lost. Face of A Stranger includeds a glowing
dual-role performance by Billie-Marie Gross as the haughty Otillia and
servant Anna.

"David Michalak's folkloric opus transports his audience into a world
shared by UFA expressionists of the silent era yet it possesses a
wonderful, uncanny immediacy - both poetic and hypnotic."

The program will open with Gino Robair live-scoring Michalak's[masked]mm
short film Hail Storm.
