On October 2 at 7:30pm, Tom's Place presents
Shudder, the trio of Kyle Bruckmann (oboe), Lance Grabmiller
(electronics) and Phillip Greenlief (sax), "uses composition and
improvisation to explore and develop an emerging language for acoustic
instruments that can flourish in the realm of electronic music," according
to their online bio.
We're always looking for an excuse to get Phillip to play, and when he
suggested that shudder, his trio with oboist Kyle Bruckmann and laptopper
Lance Grabmiller, would be interested in doing something, we jumped at the
chance. The three complement each other perfectly; Kyle has a gorgeous,
subtle, electronics-influenced oboe vocabulary and Lance's
Audiomulch-driven laptop work is firmly grounded in the concrete sounds he
works from. And I've come to believe that Phillip can play with anybody in
any style at all and not lose his unique, idiosyncratic voice.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing them, and I hope you are too.
See you Tuesday.

Tom Duff. It's a neat idea, and would be amazing if it works.
