Hi there! I'm a forty-something mom, wife, math instructor and barefoot runner. I love being active and enjoy spending time with my family and friends doing things outdoors.
Love it! I really feel in tune with nature when I hike barefoot because my bare feet give me so much feedback about what's under my feet! Also, I generally have to slow down when hiking barefoot and taking my time allows me to take in my surroundings.
Running was never my thing until I discovered barefoot running a few years ago. It began with reading a review of the Vibram Five Fingers. Everything I was reading about the natural running style made total sense to me. I bought VFF Treks which were soon followed by the Bikila and quickly replaced with the Bikila LS (the one with the laces). After reading Born to Run, I then discovered huaraches at xeroshoes.com. I finally made the plunge and went totally bare after reading some encouraging posts in the Runner's World Barefoot Running Forum. I mostly run around my neighborhood and on local trails. I must be the only barefoot runner in all of Berks County...please correct me (and connect me!) if I am wrong :)
Does swimming count? :)
I can go days without shoes in-between semesters at the college or while on vacation. If I have to wear shoes then the only thing I wear is either my Xero huaraches, my Luna sandals or flip flops.
A friendly group of adventurous people...my kind of peeps! New friends...yay!!!
Lara!!! Are you ready for Round 2?? July 8 :) Bring your friends again!
Hello Lara! Thanks for joining Fun Berks, looking forward to meeting you :)
Thank you for the greeting, Lara. It's a bit of a trek from me to you all, but I can't wait to meet you and the group and feet boulders beneath my feet... Namaste.
Lara, I want to thank you for helping welcome all of the new members. It's something I don't always have time to do, but I think it means a lot to the new people and makes them feel confident to come out to their fist event.
Hi Lara, thank you for your welcome I will practice because for be honest I never did, but I guee will be fun, you are very kind, I hope to meet yopu soon...
Sounds like a plan <g>
thanks for your welcome note. I am afraid I will not be able to join you for the international barefoot day: it happens to be the same day as the Broad Street Run here in Philadelphia, and I am running in that race... so I guess I will have my International barefoot running day in a different location :-)
I wish you all a lot of fun on your run, and hope I might be able to join you at some other time.
And wish me luck on the BSR... it's 16 km :-\
Welcome to the Lehigh Valley Barefoot Runners & Hikers. You definately found a home here. BTW, love the default pic... Nothing is cooler than a barefoot family.
