Bassets & Beagles VA/DC/MD Message Board › boarding for a month needed - recommendations or generous families welcome
|A former member||
the short of it: i'm in need of a place that will board my sweet beagle/hound mix for a month. any recommendations? i live in dc (mt.pleasant), i have a car & am willing to drive. i am hoping for something affordable, cageless/crateless & a good reputation.
or if any family would like to help me out, i would greatly appreciate it & would compensate for your generosity.
the long: as for my dog, his name is wyatt. he's a 2 yr old puppymill rescue, that has come into my life since january of this year thanks to warl. he is quiet... very odd for his beagle/hound background... he only whines when he needs to be taken out. he loves playing with dogs of all sizes. he's afraid of loud noises & rides on the floor of a car. he loves going for walks or runs. he has all of his shots. he's house trained & knows basic commands. he's one of the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet. he loves people of all ages, & all the pets/hugs one can give.
i will be traveling for majority of july to europe & this is the first time i am looking for something like this. i have never boarded a dog. usually i have known friends or family to take care of previous dogs, though since i am a new transplant from california i don't have quite the network that enables the same abilities with pet sitting when needed.
i am looking for any recommendations of places that are affordable, cageless preferred & reputable; or if there is a family that would like to help me out, i would greatly appreciate it & would be happy to compensate for your generosity. if you don't want money, i make a great lasagna or cupcakes. :)
please contact me & i will send you my personal information.
My dog was fostered by Sandy at Creekside Kennels, which is Midland, VA (and maybe 55-60 miles from DC). It's far from DC but the dogs basically live in a home with the owners and are really well cared for. Sandy is a trainer, also. Availability is limited, but if I were going to go somewhere for a month, this is where I'd want my dog to be. http://www.creeksidek...
For shorter trips, I'm planning to use my dogwalker who will do overnight stays. It's pricier but my pets can stay at home. http://www.tailsofthe... Overnight stays start at $70/night, I think -- but perhaps you can arrange a deal if it's for a full month. It includes 2 walks a day, $10 more for an additional walk.
Animal Resorts in Alexandra is $29/night and has great reviews.
Seven Corners Animals Hospitals in Falls Church, VA also does boarding for $25/night (I think) and has good reviews:
Best of luck finding a good option, and let me know if you discover any good places -- I'm always on the lookout!
