Programming Languages I've Been Meaning To Try But Haven't Got Around To Yet

Programming Languages I've Been Meaning To Try But Haven't Got Around To Yet (or PLIBMTTBHGATY for short) is an opportunity for you to spend the day learning or experimenting with a new language in a room full of like-minded individuals. This event is being hosted by Bath Ruby but everyone's welcome, regardless of your usual language of choice :)

This was inspired by and is based on this event that took place a couple of weeks ago and if it's a success then I'd like to make it a regular thing.

If you're looking for some inspiration then here are some languages you might like to try:

• Haskell

• Clojure

• Elixir

• Brainfuck

• Go

• Scratch

• dogescript

GitHub and FreeAgent are very kindly sponsoring this event and it's being hosted at The Guild, a co-working space in the centre of Bath.

FreeAgent (who have just won two Software Satisfaction Awards and are, by all accounts, a great company to work for) are hiring full time developers and ops engineers at the moment. You can either work remotely or they'll help you cover relocation costs to Edinburgh.

And if you'd like to give FreeAgent a try, all attendees will receive a unique promo code giving you a 3 month free trial.

phpbrew (RVM for PHP): https://github.com/c9s/phpbrew - makes installing and switching between multiple PHP version *extremely* easy.

ah, that looks cool, the one thing that concerned me about phpenv (https://github.com/php...) is that it would mean I couldn't use all the other lovely brewed php stuff.

I might give Lua a look in, I've seen some nice examples. Anyone else used it before?

I have it's great I built an kids iPad app with it... I wish I knew about moonscript when I started though. It's like CoffeeScript for Lua!

Going to dive into Elixir myself, I think! Needed an excuse to do that for a while. Has anyone got any ideas for good places to source code challenges? I was tempted to just use /r/dailyprogrammer.

Awww, this looks amazing (I really want to play with Erlang), but I've got a theatre production that weekend.

    Have a fun day folks.

Also, I like the idea of this sort of event.
