I would like to share something that I feel we need to do, in addition to marching and voicing our hopes. We need to express our gratitude. I love this industry. I've watched it grow, I've been blessed with new friends who have come here from all over the nation because of it, and I feel we are living in exciting times... But we have to get rid of the us & them mentality. When a production like Oblivion comes to town, we need to stop complaining that they're taking our jobs. Instead, we need to start seeing it as an opportunity. I'm afraid the government may have heard too many times that this industry isn't helpful to us because it only benefits Californians. We need to view those productions as job creating instead (even if the job we have to start with is pouring coffee... that puts us about in the league with Ben Affleck and everyone else who started low and worked up). It's not going to happen overnight. We're going to have to build a lot of bridges and work hard for it. But we need to embrace what these experienced filmmakers have to offer us. We're going to have to start where we are, seize every opportunity that comes to us, and build this industry one relationship at a time, while learning everything we can, continuously improving our skills, and creating rockstar amazing work. We need to show our government that we're thankful for the Oblivions that are coming in. And personally, I am. I made several friendships and got a small script sale out of L.A. from the crew of The Host. I didn't know I would sell anything when I opened my home to them. I just embraced the experience and welcomed them to town. And that's what we have to do- stop calculating "what's in it for us" (as individuals) when we meet someone, and start working towards what's in it for US (all of us, as a collective whole, regardless of where anyone is from). Let's convince the governor there is no us and them and that Hollywood in town is good for all of us.
May your thoughts be as glad as the shamrocks
