"Hats off to BR Rep. Erich Ponti for filing HB 679 today! HB 679 would make motion picture tax credits applicable to oil and gas severance tax liability in addition to Louisiana income tax.

If and when La. income tax ever phases out or gets repealed, HB 679 would help ensure that motion picture credits live on and Louisiana's film industry can remain competitive. In essence, HB 679 causes an established Louisiana industry to directly the support the growth of an emerging one...and vice versa. As long as the State of Louisiana taxes oil and gas coming from the ground, we'll be diversifying our economy and supporting the growth of an industry that could employ our kids and grandkids. Oil and gas defined Louisiana's economy for the past 100 years; now, it can foster the growth of an industry that could help define the next 100. The money oil and gas producers save by buying credits might even lead to more exploration and drilling...creating more jobs and paying the State more dividends. That just makes sense. It is good policy and is a sound economic development strategy in my opinion. Great job, Erich.

Best part: There is no fiscal note. Let your legislators know you support HB 679!"
