Sun., 3/17/13: Fremont Park 9 Holes (Co-ed)

This meetup is for everyone--both men and women.

Since some of us will already be at Fremont Park for a Ladies League meeting, I might as well schedule a regular golf meetup.

Booked under "Lucy," the green fee is $13; replay = $7. Clicgear pushcarts = $5.

We'll have the $5 all-u-can-hit warm-up session beforehand around 9:30/10:00ish. More details in the comment box below.

If you're planning to hit some balls before we tee off, please pay your green fee and the $5 range fee at the pro shop and wander over to our reserved stalls which are on the left side of the driving range, (where Larry and his groupies are in the left photo).

If you're golfing only, meet us at the same left area by 10:45 a.m.

Lucy, thanks for organizing...Awesome job. Sorry couldn't hang around to say good-bye to you and all. Had to hurry home and get ready for work. Bummer...Sure would have love to join the after party. Hopefully, I can join in on the next meetup.

Great seeing you again, Tiffany and everyone else. Really nice meeting you, Anna and Dean! And Luisa and Elmer, too. Dean, thank you very much for spending time showing Elmer how to golf. You are really terrific!

What a beautiful day for golf it was. I had a really wonderful time. I thought it was so neat that despite each group having one or two novice players, we kept great pace.

See you all the next time you join us, which I hope will be real soon.

Thanks Lucy for organizing a fun event.

Sorry I have to cancel, I have to back in SJ by 1.

Here are the group assignments. Again, this will be a regular golf meetup, not a Pink Ball Tournament.

    Group1: Kiet, Dean, Rahul, Jeffrey
    Group2: Mike, Mark, Jag, Elmer
    Group3: Araceli, Katie, Tiffany
    Group4: Annette, Michele, Teri, Toni
    Group5: Lucy, Luisa, Bill, Irfan
    Group6: Lorna, Anna

I have left Lorna and Anna as a two-some for now. If we have last-minute RSVPs, they will be added to Group6 or Group3. If we have cancellations, I will move Lorna and Anna to other groups. Therefore, Lorna and Anna will not end up golfing as a two-some.

I look forward to seeing everyone at 10:45 a.m. by the left driving range stalls.

I will email everyone my phone #.

We will do the Pink Ball Tournament on a day that Brian is available, so this time it will be a regular golf outing. I will post the group assignments after I get home from the Symphony.

For those of us who are novices, and don't own hardwares (pardon the terminology, if improper ), do we rent them at the pro shop?
    Any suggestion in this area?

    • Lucy

Hey, Elmer. Kiet will bring his spare set of clubs for you to use.

Sounds like I am in the right team, Captain.

Soundd like fun. Looking forward to meet everyone. Go team!

Here are the "teams" for now. Brian will pull one person from each team to make foursomes. So each of you are playing for your original team (A, B, C or D), not your foursome. Regardless of what foursome or team you are on, you will still be playing your own ball, except when it's your turn to play the pink ball.

Team A: Brian, Rahul, open spot, Katie, Luisa, Toni
Team B: Mark, Annette, Mike N, Lorna, Lanie, Elmer
Team C: Kiet, Lucy, Jag, Michele, Tiffany, open spot
Team D: Larry, Dean, Jonathan, Araceli, Anna, Jeffrey

The teams will change slightly as RSVPs change.

Each team should come up with a fun name for themselves.

Here's the link to the "Pink Ball" tournament which Brian posted on our Message Board:

    http://www.meetup.com/bay-area-golf-meetup/messages/boards/thread/32429682

"Pink Ball" may sound a bit confusing, especially to the newer golfers, but I promise it'll be a blast and specific instructions will be given once the foursomes are made.

    March 14, 2013

  • Brian A.

OK, I see quite a few familiar faces in the outing. All of you have had enough experience that we can start to add a little bit of challenge to the game - Give you all a little more to think about rather than just standing there and hitting your ball. Which means its time to add some games to the mix. The game for this outing is "Pink Ball". The rules are fairly simple and have been posted on the message board. Lucy will be setting the teams (to balance skill levels among the teams) and I will be setting the foursomes. We will not encourage betting or anything like that as that gets into areas I do not wish this group to go. Since this is our first experience with this game, there will be no prize at the end but bragging rights will be fully observed.

I decided to add the $5 all-you-can-hit driving range thingy before we tee off. Alex and I will be in the Ladies League meeting at 9:30, so I thank Brian, Kiet, Araceli and Jag for arriving early (by 9:15 if possible, pretty please) to keep trespassers away from our reserved stalls, thank you very much. I strongly recommend those whose first time it is to golf or those with very limited experience to come early and practice hitting balls before we tee off.

If this is your first time joining us, our group will be at the far left driving range stalls (see the above photo). Whether you're joining us for both the warm-up and golf or just golf only, please meet us by those stalls.

Lastly, if you guys would like to have a pre-game contest like we did prior to our 3-Club Tournament, let me know and we'll do something fun like that.

    March 11, 2013

    • Lucy

That was the first and last time that'll happen. The night shift guy didn't collect the balls, do Dan did before his lesson. Alex knows about that.

      March 12, 2013

    • Lucy

BTW, the guy that didn't pick up the balls the night before is no longer employed at Fremont Park.

      March 13, 2013

  • Jonathan

Would love to join in, sounds like a good group!

    March 13, 2013

  • Brian A.

If anyone has some disgustingly pink (the worse looking the better) balls they would be willing to donate to a good cause, please bring about a dozen.

    March 12, 2013

    • Lucy

I can donate a few, and I'm sure Lorna and Toni would be more than happy to contribute. Lol, I just love volunteering people without checking with them first. I LOVE your idea, Brian. Did you want to tell everyone why you need ugly pink balls or did you want to spring it as a surprise?

      March 13, 2013

  • Araceli

You got it Lucy! I'll be there

    1 · March 12, 2013

  • Michelle

I can't make it in the morning. But you guys are going to play the second round, let me know.

    March 11, 2013

    • Lucy

Some of us ALWAYS do a replay or two. If you remind me, I'll call/text you when we are about finished with the 8th or 9th hole. We'll probably sit around and have a BYO lunch or snack before the 2nd round.

For those who've never golfed before or with very limited experience, please become familiar with golf etiquette, thanks. Here's a link for you to check out:

Elmer, Brijesh: I'm guessing you don't own clubs. Fremont Park rents them for $10. A suggestion would be for you to consider purchasing Jason's clubs for $40. Here's the link to our Marketplace page: http://www.meetup.com...
