Ladies Club 2-Person "Best Ball" Tournament & Potluck

For Ladies Club members only.  However, if any ladies are interested but haven't signed up yet, please let me know. You are very welcome to join. The annual membership fee is $99, which includes the NCGA membership and a $50 driving range card.

This month, we'll do a 2-person "best ball" tournament so that everyone has a chance to score points and win prizes.

I will pair up a stronger player with a novice player or pair two players who have some experience on a golf course.

I copied and edited the below explanation from About.com/golf:

Each of the partners plays her own golf ball throughout the round, and on each hole the low score - or "best ball" - serves as the team score. For example, Player A gets a 5, B gets a 4, then the team score for that hole is 4, because the low score of the group was Player B's 4.

This way, each of the ladies can keep her own score, which can then be submitted to NCGA.

Tournament fee:  $25.  Checks payable to "Lucy Kim."  Portions of the fee go toward the green fee, prizes and the year-end celebration.

Please arrive by 8:30 a.m. for instructions and to meet your partner. We'll meet by the tables and chairs next to the pro shop.

Several members have requested a potluck for after the tournament, so we'll discuss this more in detail later.

Here are the prize categories for this month:

- the best overall score (both partners win a prize)

- the 2nd best overall score (both partners win a prize)

- the 3rd best overall score (both partners win a prize)

- the lowest putt strokes (for an individual, not your 2-person team)

- the 2nd lowest putt strokes (for an individual)

- closest-to-the-pin on hole #6 (for an individual, not your 2-person team)

- closest-to-the-pin on hole #8 (for an individual, not your 2-person team)

- the longest drive on hole #9 (for an individual, not your 2-person team)

- the "most challenged" (the highest overall score for your team)

- the most balls lost (for an individual, not your 2-person team)

Points for this tournament are as follows:

- 2 points for playing (2 points each time you attend)

- best overall score:  10 points for each partner

- second best score:  5 points for each partner

- third best score:  2 points for each partner

- best putter/lowest putt strokes:  5 points for an individual

- second lowest putt strokes:  2 points for an individual

- closest-to-the-pin on hole #6:  5 points for an individual

- closest-to-the-pin on hole #8:  5 points for an individual

- longest drive on hole #9:  5 points for an individual

The five members who registered in April should receive their GHIN #s by the time we play this tournament.  Therefore, everyone please submit your score to NCGA via the NCGA kiosk/computer at Fremont Park or online at home as soon as you can after the tournament, thanks.

    Here are the tournament results:

    - Best overall team score: Michele V. and Leticia with a score of 41. This is quite an accomplishment being that Leticia is our most novice golfer. She finished Tournament #1 (first time ever on a golf course) with a 96; this time, her individual score was 48--only 4 strokes more than me. She's been taking lessons and golfing a min. 3 times a week. Way to go, Leticia!

    - Second best team score: Marcelina and Meena with 43.

    - Third best team score: Lucy and Mary with 44.

    - Best Putter: Lucy with 19 strokes.

    - Second best putter: Marcelina with 20 strokes.

    - Closest to the pin, hole #6: Michele V.

    - Closest to the pin, hole #8: Nancy

    - Longest drive: Cali

Almost everyone posted lower scores this month. One member shot 25 strokes better, another 10 strokes, and the rest of us between 1 and 6 lower.

Don't forget to submit your scores to NCGA. For our new members, I'll email your GHIN #s as soon as I receive them.

    Hi Lucy,
It was a perfect golfing day with fun golfers and good cooks. The potluck lunch was a good idea.
May I suggest that we do lunch together (potluck/restaurant, etc) on our tournament days and greet the month's birthday celebrants. This could be another way of getting to know the members.
    Your leadership is simply wonderful.
    Thank you.
    Marcelina

I love your idea! We can start with June birthdays. Fremont Park will open their restaurants one of these days, so we can do some lunches there and we can go offsite sometimes and do another potluck in a couple of months. Maybe we can give out ball markers or a sleeve of balls to the birthday gals and have a little birthday cake or something like that each month. Thank you for suggesting it! I will email you guys for your birthdates.

Here are the teams. Please keep your own score so that you can submit it to the NCGA. At the bottom of one of the partners' scorecard, write down the better score for each hole.

Don't forget to keep track of how many putt strokes you take for each hole. I will email you later tomorrow (Friday) more details about the tournament.

I will arrive at 7:45 a.m. to greet everyone and to let you know where to store your potluck items. Please arrive by 8:30 a.m. so that we can go over the rules and other items. Let's meet at the "patio" area where the tables are. We will tee off at 9:00 a.m. sharp.

    The teams and the foursomes:

    Group1: Lucy-Mary, Teri-LaShonda
    Group2: Peggy-Toni, Michele-Leticia
    Group3: Marcelina-Meena, Ann-Luisa
    Group4: Faith-Katherine, Nan-Tiffany
    Group5: Lorna-Cali, Kelly-Elaine

The prizes for this month include nice golf balls, pairs of movie tickets, Starbucks gift cards and golf gloves.

This is going to be such a blast!

Please email me your response regarding the potluck if you have not already done so. What you are bringing or if you are not participating. I think we have plenty of salads, so check the last spreadsheet I emailed Thursday night for suggestions. Thanks.

I decided to set tomorrow (Thursday) at Noon as the deadline to RSVP so that I can post the 2-person teams.

Please update your RSVP if there's a chance that your plans might change. Thanks.

Sorry I have the chickenpox and will miss the tournament. My apologies for the late notice.

Please check your email inbox. I just sent a message about the potluck assignment.

I will work on the 2-person teams in the next couple of days; therefore, if there's a chance you may not be able to play this Saturday, please change your RSVP ASAP, thanks. This will be a TRUE DRAG after all the work that will go into the pairings if anyone cancels at the last minute, because I'm going to pair everyone according to their skill level (prizes and tournament points are involved) and to shuffle people around last-minute will be very difficult this time and may delay the start of the tournament and the teams may end up being unfair.

There are two on the list who have done last-minute cancellations more than once, so I will pair them together--just in case, LOL.

    Thanks for updating your RSVP, and . . . stay tuned . . .
