Napa River flat water paddle

A bit last minute, but looking to paddle the Napa River this weekend, Saturday. Paddle from Kennedy Park to Cuttings Wharf. It's @ 7 miles round trip, and the wind hits our backs on the way back. High tide is around noon. This is a relaxing paddle, no rapids. Be on the water by 10ish, and probably be off the water by @2:00 ish. Parking is free at Kennedy. Bring lunch. I believe there are bathrooms at Cuttings Wharf as well as Kennedy Park. Questions? Just ask.

Meet at the water or parking lot near water. Follow Streblow Dr. to the very end, winding around the park. My cell number for that day is (408) 691-3737.

A little late on the notice, but I'm glad I made it. Perfect weather, perfect company. My little write-up starting at the top page (http://bakayaker.com).

Thanks to Ron, I bought myself a fish finder even though I don't fish off my kayak (at least not yet).

I think I was on the right side of you during lunch. No we did not meet, at least not formally. Yes, I like to be incognito.

Way to go Seek, you'll be hooking into fish in no time-:)

So sorry Cheryl that we missed you. Truthfully, there was a lot going on at the put in, with 3 different clubs meeting that day to paddle! It was somewhat hard to sort out who was who. We actually had more than 10, so I assumed we were good. Very calm waters, lovely paddle, and friendly paddlers with good manners too! That Osprey (?) nest was unique—situated on a crane, in some type of container, way up high. There's always more of the Napa River to explore.

Lovely, super, and low key. Was that an osprey with nest we saw on the crane? Friendly group, all as planned. The Napa hills are a beautiful backdrop especially on the way back. it's a peaceful paddle.

Unfortunately I arrived a little late and the group had left but I met another group that was going in the other direction.

Very sorry we didn't get together. However I am glad you were able to get out on the water.

First off thanks very much to Dana for posting this paddle. Many of us had never been to the Napa River so is was great to try a new spot. Fun group and a very nice way to spend a Saturday.

I like where I can just hop out of my kayak & swim, but not there. Still good outing & nice to meet everyone. I guess that I've been spoiled with the fresh water lakes, camping-fishing-swimming this summer-:)

What time do you suggest? We should try to get everyone to launch close to the same time.

    August 16, 2013

    • Dana A

Bob: We can aim to leave at 10:00AM if people arrive early enough to assemble their gear, and that prep time will vary with each person.

I will be on the water and ready to go at 10:00

Should be noted that a paddle from Kennedy to Cutting on Saturday requires going against the current both ways. Not dramatic, less than 1 knot. The restaurant/ bar at Cuttings is closed.

I recommend people get to the Napa River put in as early as they can because it will take time to launch with 8 people and other boats launching. 10:00 AM is, no doubt, a popular time on a Saturday. Also, expect a few power boaters to pass by us on occasion.

Any chance there is a place to rent kayaks near by? I'd love to go but I don't own my own yet.

Whoops!: Here's the web link: http://www.napavalley... The challenge is to drive there, get all the gear, and get to the put in, in time to join everyone!

Cool! I've been wanting to paddle this area.
    Is swimming likely?

    August 14, 2013

    • Dana A

I've seen a lot of fishing going on, but no swimming. I think the water quality is a little suspect but there is tidal flow in and out.

I've always wanted to paddle there. Unfortunately, can't do it this weekend. Bummed.

I've paddled the river before. I'd like to do it again. I'm in.
