Great Pumpkin Paddle (Hunter's Moon ) Foster City

Yes, a reprise of last year's successful Great Pumpkin Paddle in Foster City is really possible! We can catch both a sunset and what should be a spectacular moonrise, then paddle a few miles as it darkens. Figure some wind and cool weather, but clear, and no tides. There are bailouts possible, plus a shopping center if you want to stop for dinner. (See pictures on this site from last year.) You will need lights, though. Something on your head and something on your boat; a lightstick will do in a pinch. Whaddya say, folks? Want to join me?

Gorgeous video, especially the end! How great that you get to video your Adventures. We haven't been able to get it together yet to even take a picture on the water. Even when we went to Elkorn Slough and saw all the sea otters and a seal

What you need is peace of mind (while you have stability). That comes with a truly waterproof camera setup and a mount that you won't fear dropping into the drink! There are many ways to skin that cat, BTW. But it's worth doing as you can then enjoy your adventures all over at any time.

Here's a shorter video version. Can't get the resolution I would have liked - light too low - but you get the idea anyway: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z40g-nBaRfc

We will probably come to watch you launch. We've never been to one of these meet ups before, But plan to attend the Alviso Slough one. We want to make sure we're prepared!

Sorry about backing out at the last minute on the Hunters Moon paddle. Linda got stuck at work and it threw off all our timing. Look forward to seeing some paddlers at future events.

Thank you Bart, first time I'll be with this group, I'm a beginner, 6 month with Kayak, although I took self rescue class and go to creeks, rivers and the Bay, no to deep twice a week. Love Kayaking.

Miguel, this is "flat water", no different than a small lake. No rapids, no tides, just wind.

Directions: Enter Foster City from highway 92 or Hillsdale Blvd (from 101). Turn south on Foster City Boulevard. Depending upon where you get on FC Blvd, you'll go through several lights before approaching a humpy little bridge. That traffic light before the bridge is Bounty Drive. Turn right (west) on Bounty under the electrical towers, then immediately left into the dog park. Go to the back of the park near the bridge and that's where the boat launch is.
    See you there!

Folks, I'm watching the moonrise and see that we really should launch by 6 PM to be in place for the dual event (sunset/moonrise) at its best. So please arrive by about 5:30 PM if you can.
The Foster City canal system is saltwater, but it is NOT directly connected to the Bay, so it has zero tidal action. There can be wind and light wave action. Water is relatively warm, but air gets chilly after dark.
Please be sure to have a light on you or your boat. Nothing fancy is required, but you need to be seen in the darkness.
I'll post my cell phone tomorrow so you can reach me if you need to.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
