Mid Summer Social / Paddle - Elkhorn Slough

Most of our group has been to this location at least once.  (A few of you, many times).  It is a wonderful place to go and is probably one of the more social paddles on our agenda.  Hence the name of this event.

I have moved the start time to 9:30 as the rental location does not open until 8:30.  Particularly for those renting, please try to be punchual.  See you there.

Lovely day, thanks to everyone for being so welcoming to a newcomer! Hope to see folks in Bolinas.

This was probably one of the most relaxing paddles I have had for some time. (Lake Sonoma may be the most relaxing). Thanks to everyone for being a great group. I don't know that I have ever seen so many otters on any other trip. Great fun.

Jerry, John et al., I hope you were able to see my post yesterday that I caught a cold and that you didn't delay launch by even one minute. As I still have this enervating cold, I made the right decision, but glad you all had fun on such a beautiful day!

Love paddling Elkhorn Slough, always good. Great group of folks to paddle with.

Ack, I have a last minute family obligation this sat that trumps the trip to Elkhorn Slough this weekend. Was really looking forward to this one, but hopefully there will be another Elkhorn paddle soon (?)

There will be JW; next one is August 10!

Excellent! I just RSVPd, I'm not missing this one. Look forward to meeting you.

Gorgeous day, and hefty current took us to the far end of Rubis Creek in record time. We came back through the creek before stopping for lunch. Discovered sand dollar cove (thank you, Pat), and, overall, had a great, leisurely day.

I woke up with a very bad cold which is making me feel very tired. I've been really looking forward to this since it was announced, but I won't be able to make it. Bummer! Oh well, there will be other paddles. : ) I hope this gets to you on time. Have fun, and see you all soon! ~MAG

Probably can't make this weekend...just moved to Fairfax. Is there still a paddle in Tamales Bay in July
in the evening? Saw it posted a couple months ago.

    July 11, 2014

    • John M.

I don't see it on the KA schedule, Denise. There are daytime paddles in the general area in July: Drake's Estero on Sunday, 7/20, 9 a.m., and Bolinas Lagoon on Saturday, 7/26, at 10 a.m. There is a Tomales Bay overnight in September, on Sat-Sun 9/27-8, meeting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Arrive at 9 or in water at 9? Gonna be bringing a newbie with me who will need time to get a rental kayak.

    June 22, 2014

    • Liz

The way I was taught to figure out "me" versus "I" is to fill in the missing words, such as "Yeah ok, I <will be there at 8:30> as well." However, I agree that it often sounds more natural to use "me".

Paddler grammar is as vexing as tide flows in sloughs

      2 · July 10, 2014

  • JW

John, I have a recommendation for a paddle, maybe end of this month or in August? how about Bolinas Lagoon? People can rent from the nearby Stinson Beach Kayaks.

Thank you, John and Seek, this is sounding more and more doable!

      July 10, 2014

    • John M.

I'm easily confused, so would ask that we shift this conversation to the actual Bolinas Lagoon event page.

I was hoping you would see (and say) that, Michelle! Probably won't be many people at the P&R -- but I'll be in a dark gray Prius. Looking forward to it!

  • Barbara

Michelle -- I'd love to drive down to Elkhorn Slough with you -- thanks! I'll be renting equipment -- and so would like to get there on the early side -- is that a problem for you? Please let me know where the park & ride is!

    July 1, 2014

    • Pam

Hi Michelle, I live in San Ramon do you have room for one more? I will pay for gas, and like Barbara I need to rent equipment as well. Pam

This is my favorite place to paddle - for the wildlife and the tranquility in the area. Great selection! Hope to be able to join everyone there!

As long as we mean the same thing by "SOT." : )

Is anyone interested in carpooling from midpenisula, RWC. I have a boat and can drive or ride.

    July 9, 2014

Hi Pam, I wish I could but don't have a clear back seat if my 2 door car and not sure if I will have my truck that day.

    July 7, 2014

    I s this a day or overnight/camping trip?

    July 2, 2014

Can you make it to 680 and sycamore? There is a park and ride I can meet you at.

      June 30, 2014

  • John M.

High tide at Noon means current at our backs, going and coming. Nice pick, Jerry!

    April 20, 2014

    • Pamela

The onshore winds normally pick up about then so good time to paddle back in. ;-)

      June 4, 2014

    • John M.

I hope that some will want to negotiate Rubis Creek, and we might paddle in the slough to the far end of the creek for lunch in our boats. That would put us on the way back at about the time the wind gets more active (after 1). If the forecast is for a windy day, we'd probably want to be on our way back before then, which might even eliminate trying Rubis Creek, though I hope not.

Sorry - but I'm looking for a ride, too!

    Anybody?

Anybody interested in carpooling and coming from or through Berkeley. I have a 1/2 person Pakboat xt16 I want to take and can take one extra paddler in. No car though
