Do China Camp again

Conditions seem nice for a repeat of this trip. Launch from China Camp State Park and go north; turn west into Gallinas Creek; dock at McInnis Park and have a snack. Go back to China Camp and have a beer, a burger or an ice cream bar. Parking costs $5 -- bring exact change for the metal box. See http://files.meetup.com/1594076/Directions_to_China_Camp_Village.pdf and http://files.meetup.com/1594076/China_camp_paddle.gif for more info.

We Received A "Sign From Above" :-)
Right when we were "wandering blind in the tall weeds"(along the banks) and I was a bit ahead some kayaker told me to stop because I might be going the wrong way. Within 1.5 seconds there was a roar just over our heads as a piper cub took off and passed about 35' over our heads! "I think there is an airport near here!" I quipped and if you maps.google "San Rafael airpot-CA35" you will see that planes fly directly over the fork in the river... this told me I had taken the correct fork! We saw no other plane in the ~1.5 hours we were near that airport. Coincidence? I think not! :-)

I'm new to the area. Is a wetsuit required this time of year? Are there Kayaks available to rent at this location? Thanks!

Bert, thank you so much for the offer! I've been apartment hunting and underestimated how much time it would take. I just found a place so I will hopefully be able to join an upcoming paddle (and need to get a wetsuit). Looking forward to it.

I Dave, I am in touch. We're just trying to figure out if we can carpool. He is coming from the East Bay by Public Transport and bike. Is there anyone else coming from the East Bay?

I am coming from Pleasanton. JT, I'll try calling you.

We generally see other groups of kayakers there. To help us find each other: Look for my big gray Honda Pilot and my big orange inflatable kayak.

Ken Bernards will be joining us, too. (Apparently he is unable to RSVP because his KA membership is pending.)

Bert, thanks for offering to lend wetsuits to others. Any responses so far?

Hi Dave, I got one response from Joe (which apparently I missed earlier). He wanted to borrow a kayak which is no problem. I have and can transport up to 3. I'm waiting for his reply.

Really looking forward to this. San Pablo Bay and the coast north of China Camp are really beautiful. Plus it's fun once you get into the creek and are paddling alongside the jogging path. I haven't paddled here in the winter before, but I am hoping the wind will be pretty mild. Anybody else have insights on that?

D, let me know size wetsuit you are looking for. I have several used ones that I have collected over the years that might work for you. Bert [masked]
