Hi, I don't have the best of news. I called Blue Waters and spoke to John. His policy is to not allow boats to be taken anywhere outside of Tomales Bay. He has concerns about liability and does not have the ability to recover equipment that is damaged etc.
We did discuss that if I were to make arrangements with him in advance for a future trip, that we might be able to work out having him transport the boats to Drakes. consequently I will make a point to meet John and work out the details. That does not help for this trip, but I will reschedule once I have negotiated with John. I believe the effort is worth it, as this is still a great paddle for us to share.
My second bad news item relates to myself. My work has presented an unexpected responsibility that I cannot get out of. Consequently, I will have to miss this paddle.
I sincerely apologize for the problems with Blue Waters as well as my own absence. I will definitely be scheduling another event at this site. For those of you that do attend, I would recommend that you meet at 8:30 or 9:00 in the morning. I had set the time for 10:00 due to the boat rentals, however if you get started sooner, you will have less mud to deal with. (Believe me, I have personal experience with the mud factor).
The Bay Area Meetup group for folks enthusiastic about kayaking. A mixture of events that will offer something for every skill level. This Meetup group does not charge fees or dues. Just participate, have fun and expand your skills.
Safety first, an opportunity for everyone to get out on the water and enjoy the many great paddle locations the Bay Area has to offer.
Different Meetups are planned for all levels of experience. Some will launch from areas where rentals are available. Other trips for the more advanced paddlers who have their own equipment.
Kayak camping, kayak geocaching and trips outside of California are all possible.
One safety note:
Unlike some other outdoor activities, kayaking requires a heightened degree of awareness and commitment to safety. While casual participation can be rewarding, please be aware that putting yourself at risk can also put your fellow kayaker's at risk as well. Kayaker's Alliance events are not guided tours, but are instead a get together of like interested people.
