Subject: [bay-areakayakers] Jerry Olson added a post

Hi everyone,

I decided to go back through all the correspondence we have received for trip suggestions. I combined this with ideas that some of us have discussed but not yet posted. In addition, I added in a few others I have been thinking of for some time.

Please review and vote for the paddles you are most interested in. I have listed them in the order I liked, but by no means let that influence your list.

Also, I realize that the summer months are drawing to a close and we have yet to host any kayak camping trips. So I have listed a few of those as well.

Paddles:
? Monterey Bay ? Paddle from the Monterey Bay Kayak shop (rentals available) to Lovers Cove. (Everyone to Moderate Paddle)
? Drakes Estero ? I was not able to make this paddle and would love to go. This is still my favorite place to go. (Someone also knows of a bakery with good pies as well). (Everyone to Moderate)
? Guadalupe River ? New Alviso boat ramp (Everyone)
? Elkhorn Slough ? While we have been there once, it appears to be a popular request. (Everyone)
? Lake Paddles ? Lake Del Valle in Livermore. Dave has suggested this paddle. (Everyone), Mary has also suggested a lake paddle and for the life of me I cannot remember where she suggested, but it was in/around Sacramento.
? San Francisco Water Front. It has a wonderful view of the city with a number of places to stop for lunch or eat after the paddle. Kayak rentals are available (Everyone ? Moderate depending on weather).
? Sausalito to Angel Island (Challenging)
? Santa Cruz Shore ? Robert suggested this paddle. Have not been there myself, so not sure what to suggest.

Camping:
? Cherry Lake ? Bob had suggested this trip and it sounds like fun. A lake for our first trip would be perfect. (Everyone)
? Sonoma Lake ? I have paddled and camped here once before. (Everyone)

Skills clinic:

First let me profess that I am no instructor. However, I have been able to help a number of folks now with improvements to their paddle stroke. We have never as a group practiced wet exits and re-entries. (Angela has suggested this event a number of times). I would like to suggest that instead of us holding a skills clinic per say, we get together to share ideas, techniques etc. Subjects to cover could be: paddle stroke & leans, exits & re-entries, tide charts, equipment, etc. If a few of us bring boats to practice falling out of (and getting back in). I also have a fairly large sun shelter that can be set up for shade depending on where we meet. I am open to suggestions on where to get together. (Schoonmaker Point in Sausalito is one suggestion. This could be a great way to get together and if anyone wants to paddle out into Richardson Bay; that would be easy to do as well). Also, do we make it a pot luck event or plan on going somewhere after. Open to suggestions.

I will start scheduling meetup?s as I get input. (Minus input, I will schedule per the list above).

Thanks much,
