Yep, it’s that time of year again.

They don't post the breweries that will be pouring but here are some that have been featured in the past.

The Annual Firkin Gravity (Cask ale) beer festival is one of the best "small" beer festivals on the west coast. Hosted by Triple Rock Brewery in Berkeley,CA, the festival featured select Firkin cask ales from 20 different breweries in northern California.

What is Firkin Cask ale?

Unlike most draft beers, firkin beers are not "injected with carbon dioxide, filtered ...pasteurized, stored in pressurized kegs and served through gas-powered taps." Instead, a firkin beer is unpasteurized, unfiltered, and "naturally carbonated, or conditioned, in its cask by yeast transforming sugar into alcohol with a side of fizzy carbon dioxide trapped in the cask."

Serving the beer also requires great care, involving a kind of pulling, pumping action, "in a rhythmic repetition like a farmhand at a well." It's also served cool but not cold, ideally at about 55F degrees.

What you have with Firkin beer is truly "Crafted" flavorful beer.

Transportation: Triple Rock is just 3 blocks from the Shattuck BART station, and an easy walk.

I agree. There's always a great list of beers, generous pours, and it's for a great organization. One if my favorite events every year.

Just a heads up I wasn't able to get I Love Beer stickers, so look for regular name tags to find the group.

Hello Tanya, You can drive to the Millbrae BART station and take BART to the event instead of driving to Berkeley. The event is very close to the Downtown BART station.

Please keep in mind that just because someone is in this group it doesn't mean that they are known or vetted. When accepting a ride from someone from this group you don't know please take all of the precautions you normally would when riding with a stranger.

Should the tickets be bought beforehand or at the door is fine?

    • Gareth M.

I don't believe you can get advance tickets.
