Sunset Bay Cruise/ Meet The Brewer/ Beer samples with cheese pairing

This could very well be the best event of the year !!

Wine Tasting on The Bay has invited us to their very first beer tasting event!

Here's some text from their website; substitute wine references for the word BEER:

Come join us aboard the San Francisco Bay’s only floating wine tasting room.  Take in the exquisite sights unique to the Bay on a ninety minute voyage while enjoying a wine flight from some of the best wineries that Northern California has to offer.  Our floating tasting room provides an intimate setting for up to 30 guests who love good wine, good company and a good time. Whether you are a fan of red wines or you fancy white wines, our wine steward will see that you have a truly memorable wine country style trip without leaving the city. The Neptune has a  heated interior cabin with large windows and has  benches all the way around the outside covered deck, making year-around voyages  comfortable and fun. We’ve got a full bar so your non-wino friends can enjoy the experience with you. Light snacks are always included to complement the wines being served.

The Cruise:

It's a ninety minute SF Bay cruise aboard the wooded vessel The Neptune. The cruise starts at 7:30 and dusk is 8:45 so we will get the best of all worlds with bay views at the beginning, a sunset, And then spectacular nighttime Bay Bridge and City lights views. The vessel docks at 9: PM and then it becomes a private bar/beer parlor until we decide to leave.

The Beer:

Calicraft Brewing company's Blaine Landberg will guide us through the tasting, walk us through the inspiration of the beers, the California ingredients in the beer and how it pairs with cheeses and foods.

Cali Coast- kolsch style ale using California grown malt. ABV 5.0%

Buzzerkeley- Sparkling ale where Beer meets champagne. ABV 7.7%

Oaktown Brown- American brown ale. Hoppy, malty, oaky and dry.  ABV 6.7%

Chez Panisse Farmhouse Ale. Farmhouse Ale brewed with organic herbs. ABV 5.2%

Wild Wit- Wit bier meets white wine utilizing California ingredients. ABV 5.2% -They are literally kegging and bottling this on June 20th. We will be the first members of the public to try this beer.

Sorry but I got a call this morning from Calicraft saying that the Wild Wit isn't ready, they are bringing an IPA instead.

We get a full portion of your choice from the samples except for the Chez Panisse Farmhouse Ale due to very limited supply.

There will also be Calicraft beer available for beverage purchases once the tastings are finished

What you get:

  • A ninety minute bay cruise
  • a brewer guided beer and cheese pairing
  • a sample set of Calicraft beers
  • light snacks (baguettes, cheeses, crackers, meats, nuts, fruit)
  • your choice of one full portion from the beers sampled *see exclusion above

$50+$2 for PayPal.

The regular price for the tour is $60 and that doesn't include a full pour at the end of the tasting.

The tour starts at 7:30 If you are late the boat will not come back to get you, plan to be there early.

This was the best event I'd been to in Ages!

I'm having a problem with people signing up before deadlines and did not yet have the minimum before I had to commit. I'd like to do more events like this but need more commitment from the members.

Bad news guys, I got a call this morning that the Wild Wit isn't ready and they are bringing an IPA instead. Sorry for the last minute change but beer is a living thing and I've found that at least one or two changes in the beer line up is common.

Chip and I took the Wine Cruise, found out they liked beer too, and gave them the group's info. Glad to hear they got it set up!

Sure thing. Their interest in beer (and quality local products in general), and the cool nature of the cruise sounded like a Perfect fit for BABS, so we wanted to really encourage the possibility. We had a ton of fun on the Wine cruise, and they even had the option of craft beer during that (though I stuck with the wine since that's what I was there for, heh).
