San Jose pub crawl

San Jose has been quietly but steadily developing a great craft beer scene the last couple years, and we're ready to show it off to the greater bay area! Join us for a guided tour of some of our favorite bars, conveniently clustered in the downtown area and easily accessible from public transit. We'll have discounts on selected beers, lots of food options, and be visiting several diverse venues.

If you're in the city or elsewhere in the bay area, consider making it down for the afternoon! We've timed the event to be convenient to the Caltrain bullet, which is one hour SF-to-San Jose. See the transportation options below.

Approximate schedule

• 1:30  Market Beer Co. - bombers, pints, and plenty of food choices from San Pedro Market Square vendors - $1 off drafts

• 2:45  ISObeers - the highly-awaited new bar from the man behind south bay craft beer institution Bobby’s Liquors - 10% off

• 4:00  Good Karma - eclectic beer and great vegan food (carnivore approved!)

• 5:15  Original Gravity - our old favorite, San Jose’s original craft beer bar with ever-rotating interesting taps, and light pub fare - selected beer discounts

Downtown San Jose is readily accessible on public transit.

Caltrain: take the 802 bullet to San Jose/Diridon and walk <20 minutes to Market Beer Co.

BART: take VTA bus 181 from Fremont BART, walk 4 blocks

VTA: light rail and many buses drop off within a few blocks

Market Beer Co. is in the building at the corner of N Almaden Ave and W St John St. This building is behind and across the courtyard from the main part of San Pedro Market Square.

We have a limited number of spots on the pub crawl. If you sign up but aren't able to attend, change your RSVP to “no” to free up your spot.

If you're on the waiting list, keep an eye out to see if you get moved to the attendee list. We often have cancellations up to day-of for events like this.

Good day, yesterday. Apropos to our discussion about mead yesterday, there is an article in the SJ Merc today about the stuff.

I would just like to thank Mike and Angela for hosting the event today. I had a blast just hanging out with every one. Going to try and make it out to Californian craft beer in Fremont next week.

Just noticed the event, and of course it's way to late to join the official attendee list now. Is there any reason I couldn't tag along anyway, just without any discounts?

    April 26, 2014

    • Mike W

Hi Jacob, we limit the number of attendees to keep the event manageable, so we ask that only those on the list attend. We'll probably do another event like this in the future, so there'll be another chance then.

A last minute update: our second stop, ISObeers will also be offering us a 10% discount today.

You'll need to be wearing a Beer Socials sticker to be eligible for the discounts, so be sure to get one from me or Angela when you arrive.

In downtown SJ, different parking garages have different management and follow different rules. The ones that used to be free a few years ago now charge a flat rate of $5 on weekends and evenings, I believe, and don't validate. The ones that validate will only validate for some of the places around and there are two (I think) separate lists of who validates, depending on which management company runs the garage that you are at. And those garages have flat rates, too -- but if you can't get validation for the entire time that you are there then any time over just gets charged that flat rate, so a partial validation does you no good. It can be both confusing and frustrating to park in downtown SJ until you figure that all out. Me, I just park in the $5 garage between San Pedro and Market and don't think about it any more. That one is also the most convenient to where we are going tomorrow.

Parking makes me donot want to hang out in downtown San jose

  • Jim

BTW, that's 'free' with a validation. And make sure to get the validation before 5pm because of the Sharks game if you park in Market-San Pedro. (sorry- Third & Santa Clara garage isn't free after all)

There are at least 2 nearby parking garages that have free weekend parking: Market & San Pedro Square garage, and Third Street Garage. Third & Santa Clara garage might be free on weekends too, not sure.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
