SF Urban Hike and Pub Crawl

SF Urban Hike and Pub Crawl

This is something I have wanted to do with the group for a while, combining two of my favorite things, walking through one of the most beautiful cities in the world and drinking beer! I thought for the first time I would keep it short and easy. We will start in North Beach, hit a couple places there, then move on to the Union Square area, then over to Amsterdam Café. All in all, it is about 2.1 miles.

I have outlined the route below. Once we start we can add places if the group feel so inclined.
You are fully welcome to meet us anywhere along the way BUT I will not be updating our location as we go, it just gets a little to complicated (and usually I forget as the day goes on).

Please make sure you bring good shoes for walking, sunscreen (if it is sunny), and some water. Rain cancels this event. If this is something the group wants I will plan more of these in the future.

Here are the bars on list (in the order we will be hitting them up):

Kennedy’s Irish Pub & Curry House

Rogue Ale

O’Reilly’s Irish Pub

Lefty O’Doul’s (stop for dinner)

Amsterdam Cafe

Even though it was overcast & chilly, fun was had by all! Great bar stops, amazing beer selections, and a super fun collection of people. Yay!

Aaron thanks so much for putting this together. It was a perfect way to spend a clody Sat afternoon. The walk was great and so were the pubs visited. This is a great group of friendly, outgoing, people and I hope to join them on a regular basis for more "Hike & Pub Craws".

Really great Meetup - thanks for all the hard work Aaron. We'd love to do it again. Meanwhile, if anyone's up for a beer in the city sometime soon let us know - my profile should link to Facebook.

Quick reminder.... If you would like to walk with us from Bart we will be meeting at the Embarcadero Bart Station at 1:00 pm. The walk will add about 1.8 miles. Otherwise we will see you at Kennedy's at 2:00. If you will be meeting at Bart, please update your RSVP status or comment (if you haven't already). I don't want to leave anyone behind if they run late. See you all soon!

Hi Aaron, I'm not sure if I'm going to make it over to SF this aft or not, so no need to wait on me. If we do come & miss you @ Embarc, will catch up along the way...

A scheduling conflict has come up and I'm sadly giving up my spot as I can't stay till the end. Hope to at least meet the group at Kennedy's. And very optimistic that another urban pub hike will be in the offing!

Will be in the city that day for a boxing class. Maybe I'll see you all there (if I'm not too beat up)!

Arjun. Two reasons... Having done this several times in the past, having too many people makes it difficult to round everyone up and move from place to place. Keeping the group to manageable size helps ensure that everyone has a good time and no one gets left behind. Second, a few of these places are a little small, walking in with 40 to 50 people, unannounced, can be problematic to some for establishments. I always want to ensure that BABS is welcome for future events.

why is there a waitlist for a bar crawl?

I signed up for this to support the concept of the blending of my two biggest hobbies: running/hiking and beer. I participated in a run as part of the 2011 SF Beer Week, and loved dropping into Magnolia, drinking a quick beer, and continuing the run in Golden Gate Park.

But since both the event and my weekend are oversubscribed, I think I'll open my spot for someone else this time. Have fun!

I'll taking the Bart in from Oakland and could use the extra exercise.

    July 30, 2012

  • Aaron

I may be down for that as well.

I plan on taking BART, that way I don't have to worry about the drive home.

    July 30, 2012

  • Mike W.

Anyone else want to add some mileage by walking from BART to the start? Not that I'm 100% sure I'm taking BART, but it seems likely.
