A new member reminded me of this theater. This will also be the first old film we have seen as a group.

Here's a website about the Polish director and the film: http://www.wajda.pl/e...

Wajda's synthesis has given birth to an outstanding art work about revolt against submission. Historical limitations are recognised, but people don't have to wear masks or have double standards any longer. Passionate and driven by the desire for a harmonious life, Man of Marble is an exceptional drama about the revolt of flesh, blood and common sense in defence of the right to authenticity, naturalness, and spontaneity. This is not nihilism - to the contrary, it is life - lived with the awareness that such a way of living is the most free, and the most moral.

Check out the info and links about this film on Internet Movie Database, http://www.imdb.com/title/t... One line from an external review makes it seem rather topical: "The effect is an honest, compassionate, and unsystematic film that deconstructs a fabricated political icon, from the illusion of a national hero to the personal struggle of an idealistic, common man."

    •  Interesting movie. I would like to see it again because there were a few parts I didn't quite grasp the first time around.
    •  sure different than an American film. As one of the other film seers said, very thought provoking about how much of film is staged, even films claiming to be documentaries. Interesting to watch the political change in Poland from the early to the late 50's. In the early part there seemed to be many people with a naive belief that things were moving forward, only to be followed by general disillusionment later, not just with politics but with other human beings.
    •  I related to this movie a lot, personally.
