Day On Angel Island: Hike, BBQ/Picnic, Party - Serious Fun!

It's that time of year, so we're off to Angle Island for a day of activities, merriment, food, sun, and fun!

PLEASE NOTE:  Either meet at the Tiburon ferry at 9:45 or on the island at the picnic area to the right of the dock, past the open field w/ the museum.  The hike starts at approx 10:45

The Plan:

Since this is the Spring edition we'll hike 2.5 miles to the top of Mt Livermore for a 360* view of the Bay Area (approx a 775' gain), then come down via the trail on the backside of the island for a total of about 5.5 miles.  Not a rough hike by any means, and of course the rating (Moderate) is contingent upon your condition.

We'll leave the food and most of the vino at the picnic area, then hike to the top.  We'll bring snacks and some vino to enjoy on top.

What to bring:

Vino (and cups)

Snacks and vino for the hike.

Your appetite!

A cooler w/ ice and plenty of food

Food to BBQ (someone please bring a small gas stove)

Sandwiches, wraps, bbq, paella, chicken, meats/cheeses/breads, salads, deserts, the works!  As always I'm hoping for plenty of ethnic food.  Not just boring hamburgers and hot dogs.  We're talking variety here, and lots of spicy food!

Plenty of Vino - we had some really nice bottles last time

Beer, water, soda, juice, whatever you want to whet your whistle

Chips, dips, snacks, and plenty to share

Layered clothing, sunscreen & hat

Hiking boots, or decent hiking shoes

$5 activity fee

Of course your sense of humour and desire for fun is an absolute must!

The hike is optional, so if you want to come chill while we hike and then eat, drink, and be merry w/ the rest of us after the hike - do it!  It's always nice to have a few people stay w/ the coolers/food while we hike.

Directions to ferry:

From US 101 heading Northbound Take the Tiburon Blvd exit, turn right, and follow Tiburon Blvd 4 miles into downtown Tiburon. Turn right on Main St. The ferry is located on the left at 21 Main St.

From US 101 heading Southbound Same exit as above, except take a left over the overpass. Instructions from overpass are the same as above.

Map and Parking Information: Park at any of the banks which will be closed and walk a few blocks to the ferry terminal.

Map and Parking Information

The ferry costs $13.50 (Round trip).  NO CREDIT CARDS  - Bring cash.

Meet at the ferry dock at 9:45am -

Ferry leaves at 10:00am sharp - they won't wait.

GPS [masked],[masked]

Return ferry runs 20 past ea hour. I.E. ferry leaves island at 3:20pm, 4:20pm, last ferry is at 5:20pm.

Typically several of us ride the last ferry then go to Guaymas for drinks, chips & salsa, snacks, etc.

Great way to end the day.

This is the largest event of the year, and is posted to several Meetup sites - plan on a full day of fun, and meeting some cool people and making new friends.

Did anyone leave a blue jacket on the island? If so, I have it and and we can find a way to get it back to you. (Chas - can you post on your other groups too).

I found the owner of the jacket, Jessica, so I need to get it from you. What's the next hike you'll be at?

I am not sure which one I am going to next. Probably the first or second Saturday of June. I'll definitely bring it with me next time.

    I watched the 2pm leaving the dock as I got there, (45 mins extra drive thru SF. traffic), I was early for the 3pm, money in car... The 4pm was a charm! LOL Still had a great time with the 10 or so folks that were still there. Thanks again ;~}

Anyone in the east bay want to car pool and/or take the ferry from Oakland instead of Tiburon? The Oakland Ferry leaves at 9am and gets to Angel Island at 10:10 a.m. But the only ferry back to Oakland is at 3:35. I'm flexible on which ferry to take but carpooling is always good. Chas - anyway you can cross post to your other groups to see if any other east bayers out there want to car pool?

I noticed the North Bay Sailing meet up is also going this same day. Should we combine forces and take over the Island?

They're more than welcome to join us.

Just looked at the sailing grp and it's my same activity - I post to several grps, including my vino grp. So yes, they'll be joining us along w/ many others. There are currently over 100 people signed up for this one, which means we can expect 50 or so. Party!
