Day On Angel Island: Perimeter Trail Hike, BBQ/Picnic, Party - Lots of Fun!

  • Aug 9, 2014 · 9:45 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Many of you missed this one in May, and others said, "Let's do it again", so we're heading back to Angel Island for more merriment, food, fun and sun.

PLEASE NOTE:  Either meet at the Tiburon ferry at 9:45 or on the island at the picnic area to the right of the dock, past the open field w/ the museum.  The hike starts at approx 10:45

The Plan:

We'll hike around the perimeter of the island (about 5 miles) almost entirely flat other than the initial rise to the perimeter trail.  Not a rough hike by any means, and of course the rating is contingent upon your condition. There are great views of the bay and bridges, so bring your cameras!  This is typically the most popular event of the year, so book your room now!

We'll leave the coolers/food at the picnic area and only hike w/ some snacks and vino.

The hike is optional, so if you want to come chill while we hike and then eat, drink, and be merry w/ the rest of us after the hike - do it!

It would be nice to have a few people stay w/ the coolers/food while we hike.

We'll leave the food and most of the vino at the picnic area, then hike around the island, bringing just snacks and some vino to enjoy on our vino/snack break along the trail.  There's a cool spot on the backside of the island w/ picnic tables and a great view of the Bay and the City, where we'll stop for refreshment(s).

What to bring:

Vino (and cups)

Snacks and vino for the hike.

Your appetite!

A cooler w/ ice and plenty of food

Food to BBQ (someone please bring a small gas stove - Thx Ed for bring one in May)

Sandwiches, wraps, bbq, paella, chicken, meats/cheeses/breads, salads, deserts, the works!  As always I'm hoping for plenty of ethnic food.  Not just boring hamburgers and hot dogs.  We're talking variety here, and lots of spicy food!

Plenty of Vino - we had some really nice bottles last time

Beer, water, soda, juice, whatever you want to whet your whistle

Chips, dips, snacks, and plenty to share

Layered clothing, sunscreen & hat

Hiking boots, or decent hiking shoes

$5 activity fee

Of course your sense of humour and desire for fun is an absolute must!

The hike is optional, so if you want to come chill while we hike and then eat, drink, and be merry w/ the rest of us after the hike - do it!

It's always nice to have a few people stay w/ the coolers/food while we hike.  And yes, you get some vino while we're away!

Directions to ferry:

From US 101 heading Northbound Take the Tiburon Blvd exit, turn right, and follow Tiburon Blvd 4 miles into downtown Tiburon. Turn right on Main St. The ferry is located on the left at 21 Main St.

Map and Parking Information

Meet at the ferry dock at 9:45am -

GPS [masked],[masked]

Return ferry runs 20 past ea hour. I.E. ferry leaves island at 3:20pm, 4:20pm, last ferry is at 5:20pm.

Typically several of us ride the last ferry then go to Guaymas for drinks, chips & salsa, and snacks, at the end of the day.  A great way to cap off the day.

This is the largest event of the year, and is posted to several Meetup sites, so plan on a full day of sun, fun, and meeting some cool people.

Great day of relaxed fun and commiseration. I hope to seeing many of you for another fun hike or day out on or around the Bay. I don't know how it works on the site, specifically, but feel free to keep in touch and/or let me know of future such meetups. Arthur - One of the two.

Unfortunately, a family "situation" has arisen so will not be able to attend. :( I was so looking forward to attending this event--and meeting the group!

Sorry to miss it, it was a lot of fun last time. But I think I might be coming down with a cold, sore throat.
