Harry Houdini exhibit followed by holiday mingle

The current show at the CJM has garnered much acclaim:

"Organized by the Jewish Museum, New York, it's a marvelous show that brings together a vast range of material documenting the world of Houdini - archival films, photographs, diaries, vaudeville posters, and the actual handcuffs, steamer trunk, milk can and other everyday objects he used in his acts of transformation. Those objects and ephemera are integrated with works by two dozen contemporary visual artists inspired by him."

We'll also tour a new exhibit...

California Dreaming reveals how the quality of “pioneering” was and still is the driving force of Bay Area Jewish life. Through photographs, documents, newspapers, videos, and ephemera, the exhibition will show how the Bay Area Jewish community, despite its stunning diversity and significant historical changes, still operates according to its unwritten founding principles: a pio-neering spirit that gave Jews the confidence to create their own destiny

I'd like to use the occasion to celebrate the sentiment of the season and gather nearby for a nosh and a jingle mingle after touring the exhibit.  The 4N5 Gallery down Mission will offer us a tasting of kosher wines and apps--plus "Houdini" wines (who knew?)--though non alcoholic juices will also be available.  As most of you probably know, "kosher" no longer means having to drink wines like Manischewitz.  Nowadays, some of the finest, most award winning, most delicious wines can be kosher.  In terms of taste, one cannot tell kosher wines from non kosher wines.  The wines will be paired with such appetizers as lox, blintzes, and Baba Ghanouj.

WE ARE REQUESTING PREPAYMENT SO WE CAN PLAN PROPERLY. Group admission is $11+$15 for the mingle wine & munchies provided by 4N5 (there will also be nonalcoholic beverages available). I have arranged for our own private guided tour which is optional @ $5 more. If you have a B of A debit/credit card, or are a member, admission is free.  Also members can use their guest privelege for another attendee or two (please indicate in your RSVP comment window whether you can bring in one or two other Meetup attendees).

ADDENDUM:  First, many thanks to those few of you who prepaid so we could properly plan the fpr the tour guide, food and beverage arrangements.  I expected that most of you wouldn't make advance payment, though I still try to cajole.

But to those who didn't register and make payment via WePAY, could you indicate in your RSVP window whether you can or cannot join the holiday mingle after the museum tour which will take place at Gallery 4N5 a block away (873 Mission, just a few doors down from 5th St. and the Good Vibrations store).  I am assuming that most of you will come to the socializing since the event was organized  to include this.  So I consider the default to be attendance.

To encourage attendance at the mingle we will be raffling off two tickets to the Fancy Food Show happening in the middle of Jan.

We will have nonalcohlic berages plus beer available for the non wine drinkers.

We are meeting at the ticket booth inside.  We have a few places left for the guided tour.  The tour will start promptly at 2:00 p.m. so please arrive a bit early to join this group.

Best parking is in the garage that runs between 4th and 5th.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  No need to send out my cellphone number since you either make it or not.  When in the museum, with such a large number, members will be fanning out.  I will pass out a tag so Meetuppers can recognize each other.

Should be a most fun day.

The holiday mingle and the guided tour came off well. But members not being able to identify themselves with stickers I had created while walking around the museum, due in part to my helper not showing and my rushing, was a problem.
