Visitors are encouraged to attend this dance extravaganza in their favorite fashions of the era. Black-and-white attire encouraged to create an ambiance of vintage film.
I'll try to hold some seats up front. But these Friday night events are notoriously difficult for finding one another.
Secret free parking behind the band shell.
Kick off this fabulous Golden Gate birthday party with my dear friend, dance hostess Cynthia Glinka and her easy-as-pie dance lessons.
6:30–7:15 and 7:45-–8:30 p.m.
Live music of the era performed byThe Royal Society Jazz Orchestra
We'll head into the cafe during the intermission
The Golden Gate Bridge celebration at the museum promises to be quite a shindig. Be forewarned that it will be hugely crowded, due mostly to the combination of being free and offering the Royal Society Jazz Orchestra, a favorite over the past 20+ years (some of you may remember the tea dances at the SF Press Club on Post that went out of existence 10 years ago).
Only those who can get to the museum close to 6:00 p.m. will find a chair to sit in, which includes me. There aren't many chairs in front of the dance area facing the orchestra (some are on the side), if it is like the last two years.
I will be wearing a white coat, button down Brooks Bros blue shirt, and bow tie in keeping with the theme of the evening' If I need to take off my coat I will be wearing maroon suspenders.
I will go into the café at the break, most likely leaving my coat on my chair. For those who are able to find me I will hand out stickers showing a large M to help Meetuppers recognize one another. But no doubt some will give the event one star 'cause they couldn't find any other members.
But even if we fail to connect, it is worth attending for the great old tunes.
