First trip here this year. Awesome 2 part trek. First part is a 1.3 mile warm up jungle like trek thru different terrain. (Must have good hiking shoes)(No gym shoes)
There will be rock & creek hopping, stooping, some climbing to get to the Falls. It;'s my own trail & I have to get back there soon to clear it & cut away a fallen hillside with bushes & heavy scrub. it will take about 4 hours & 3 hours trvl time.
We can rope down(easy) to bottom of the falls & also go up on top. Your option. Don't forget your cameras. Try & locate the huge owl's nest. I'll have hiking poles for any who wish them.
The 2nd portion takes us only 1 mile away for a wine picnic lunch. The camoflaged bird viewing house is also cool to see. Our trek starts uphill & is a 3.5 mile loop. Altittude is to about 800 ft. with outstanding views of Bolinas lagoon & the ocean. We will be under redwoods & many other trees with plank creek crossings & some small waterfalls. We will go to the huge Swing & maybe the spooky Alis tree.
On our ascent we will stop & see how the Herons & Snowy Egrets are doing on their nests. Spotting scopes are placed in a viewing area looking down into the nests. Later in the year(Spring) one can see them hatching & feeding & teaching their young to fly. All very interesting.
I'll also show you a hidden location where hidden cameras are placed that take wonderful photos of all kinds of birds & animals walking across a log over a creek. My favorite is of the momma Bobcat with her two youngins & she has a huge snake in her jaws. Just walking along as content as can be going home for dinner.
All the usual trail food, drinks & wine are included. Our optional social dinner event follows. Oysters anyone ?
Cost is $25 & I'll be donating part back to the Audubon society. It's another long and super crappy day in another paradise.
We will carpool & shuttle from L.Landing as there is very little parking at the first location. And it is extremely hard to find. I'll post more directions, etc. later.
Don't miss this one.
