This was formerly named "The Gorge of Death" & then "The Gorge of Near death ".
Now it has been tamed down to a pussy cat outing. You won't die; but it' still a very cool adventure.
READ Carefully: Moderate to slightly strenuous 6-7 mile trek. Lot's of variety & plenty of photo stops. A beautiful forest of Douglas Fir, Bay, Bishop Pine & craggy old Cypress trees & more. The First beach is almost always deserted. On our last visit here we saw about 25 Sting Rays near shore. Also some cool colored large Jellyfish. You can pick them up for unique photos.
The next stop is on a bluff with a million dollar view looking North along the Tomales bay shoreline. We will have our WINE PICNIC LUNCH here. But alas we must leave this relaxing area to cross another beach & continue on to Indian Beach & the Miwok Indian log teepees.
We will rest or frolic here for a bit & then head back to make the 4th beach & highlight of this fun adventure.
We will hike down a creek trail to some unique sandstone bluffs & enter a hidden back cliff beach area where we will visit a large beach cave & if the tide is favorable see the huge Mussel colonies. Then on to find the hidden deep Gorge (cave) with the Skylight on the oceanside. Lot's of critters to view if the tide is low.
On our way back I hope to see some of the huge Tule Elk near the road. This will be a great day for photo buffs.
Our dinner option follows.
Yes ; think of this as wild one day vacation.
Bring a lunch. Hiking boots/shoes not really needed but shoes with good tread. Bring a jacket, hat & I'll provide the WINE, juice, tea, trail bars, snacks, energy drinks, water, gourmet fruit & nut packs, hiking poles, and room in my car for 3-4 .
We will meet on the sidewalk between the Marin Brew co. & the 24 Hour Fitness gym at the tables by the Thai restaurant. bathrooms are down the middle to the left in back. Starbucks is easier & closer & is left around the Marin Brew co.
**** Larkspur landing is a shopping ctr. & is 1 blk. East of hwy 101 on Sir Francis Drake Blvd. just across the rd. from the ferry Boat harbor .
We must leave here by 9:45 am.
NOTE: If you wish to not carpool & meet me at the Trailhead:
****We hope to get to the trailhead by 10:45 am. From L.L. take Sir Francis Drake Blvd. West all the way to Hwy one (Olema). Turn right and go 200 ft. & go left. Take this to the next stop sign & turn left(S.F.D.Blvd) Go thru Inverness park. Then Inverness. keep going & the rd. will wind uphill & soon will hit a Y intersection. Go right here on PIERCE POINT RD. & take this for about a mile plus. Watch for a gravel lot & turnout on your right. It will hold about 10 cars. There is an entrance & an exit. This lot is partially hidden by some bushes.
Ok. Now read this again or print it.
You won't be disappointed. **No flaking. Must call , text or em. me by 6:00 pm on Friday 7/10 if you can't make it: aka: So weary from your slave job that you can't get out of bed, hangover, broken leg, childbirth, allergic to salt air, the forest scares you, flaking, scared of all the mean people you may encounter, blah, blah, etc.
***We are Zip lining the next day.
See you all when I return from Aloha land , around Aug. 6th.
