As some of you may have noticed, I have moved the date of the Italian wines taste-off back two weeks, from May 17th to Thursday, May 31st, 6::30 to 8:30 p.m. http://www.meetup.com/Bay-Area-Wine-Society/events/62582062/ Out of 54 "Yes" RSVPs on several Meetup sites, only 8 had prepaid five days before the event on the 17th.
We all know that RSVPs mean "I like the program but don't know if I will attend. Stay tuned" That's an OK response for a museum walk around, or a hike, but it can't work for planning a one-off wine tasting with refreshments. Or put another way, such indefiniteness isn't a problem for meetups at wine bars like those organized by Howard, Marcy and Gary, since the venues have inventory and are open regardless of Meetup numbers. But you pay $15 per glass of wine or flight including tax+tip to cover the overhead. We offer 24 limited production wines but must rent the space and pay to have staff to stay later at Gallery 4N5, our current "clubhouse". So I've learned to not count on RSVPs.
Those who paid in advance for the 17th can receive a refund if this new date doesn't work. Refunds are always given up to a day before the program, when we buy or order the food, so there is no risk in paying in advance.
Also viewing the Golden Gate Bridge exhibit at the California Historical Society will have to be rescheduled since they are only open later on one night a month. The exhibit runs through October.
We have some great wines for you to sample from artisan producers on both sides of the ocean. Hope to see you on the 31st.
In vino delectatio,
P.S. Our fundraising arm PAIRINGS is pouring and auctioning off some traditional Spanish varietals such as Tempranillo, Albarino and Verdelho at the next Arts in Dialogue to support the Yerba Buena Community Benefit District. YBCBD is sponsoring Theatre Flamenco on Thursday, May 23rd 7:00 - 9:00 pm in the Minna Alley off of 5th St. underneath the SF Chronicle Building and alongside the HUB and the company that makes the Square credit card swipe.
