Do you have a preference of day of the week for a wine tasting led by vintners

I want to select a day, assuming no individual conflicts, that appeals to the most members and other wine enthusiasts. Do I do our program on the weekend or weekday night? There are pros and cons to both. Those who work in the City don't really want to come back on the weekend. Yet a Sat (or Sun. afternoon) is easiest to get too for those living and/or working in the burbs. I want to hold tastings on varietals as we did with Petite Syrah and Pinot Noir for example, We might also organize by grape growing region. We would invite winemakers to explain their style, concerns, backgrounds, as well as characteristics of grapes, etc. And then rate and rank 12 to 16 wines, with the top wines offered for sale at 25% off. But content aside, which days are preferable, from first to last. Thanks for offering your insights. TOM

Which date would you prefer for our next gathering

Though we are still deciding the topic (see Message Board), we would like to nail down the date based on such factors as member preference. If you have no preference you can select both choices.

What day of the week for our Taste-Off / wine appreciation program ?

I need your feedback again. I'd like to return to a sit down format for our blind wine tasting/mini "People's Choice Competition". I have tentatively chosen the King George Hotel on Mason @ Geary as our venue. I also want to add an educational component bringing in a vintner to discuss the varietal being assessed. Our "instructor" would provide insight into the grape's history, terroir, wine characteristics, and the like. Our next gathering in August or September would focus on Petite Syrah, with four flights of three different wines. One of the recognized winemakers would be present to give us his or her insights into this less well known wine. The first hour would be devoted to the tasting and commentary, the second hour to a light dinner and socializing. All things being equal when should we meet?

When should we schedule our November ~Meet the Vintners~ walk around tasting?

I would like to resume our walk around tasting featuring four or five small production, artisan wineries with the vintners pouring and discussing their latest releases. We are changing the venue this month to The Artists Alley, which features more than fifty artists and is as eclectic and different as the City they represent. Some members have indicated that they simply can't make week day evenings and prefer weekends; for others it's just the reverse. A number of you attended the Sunday afternoon tasting at the Golden Gate Yacht Club several weeks ago, so I am adding a Sun. to the list. We will have some superb vino which can also be ordered for Thanksgiving and the other year end holidays.

Blind tasting of Pinot Noir Summit Gold Medal Winners

We have been fortunate to be able to use one of the conference rooms at Schlesinger Associates, but, because we are not paying customers we must generally hold our gatherings on Friday, which doesn't work for a lot of members. Here are some dates. If you want to participate please vote for all those dates when you could attend, even if it is not your first or second preference. If the front runner turns out to be on the weekend for example, we'll find a place (20 can participate), also in SF.
