Thought we'd try something new in our Meetup group. Our friends at the Outdoor Adventure Club offer various climbing safety classes that are conducted in the Bay Area. These are formal classes with professional trained AMGA guides. As such, these are not free events but highly recommended for brushing up or learning new skills to climb safely. They have generously offered up OAC member prices for Meetup members. Read the details below but for any additional questions regarding this class and other OAC classes, please contact Richard at [masked].
This two day course is designed for anyone who is climbing outdoors. The skills taught in this course will not only help you get out of tricky situations, but will also help you avoid getting into those tricky situations to begin with!
What would you do if your partner's hair was caught in her rappel device, 50' off the ground?
What would you do if your partner was 15' from the top of the waterfall at Castle Rock and freaked out?
What would you do if your partner has led more than half the rope length and wanted to be lowered back to the ground?
These are just three everyday situations that are addressed in our course. You'll learn much more, up to complex scenarios involving multi pitch rappels with unresponsive climbers, but the skills taught really apply to every day outdoor climbing.
Many people take this course after they have been in a situation they didn't have a solution for. Don't wait for trouble, get the tools and techniques to be a safer climber now!
