Climbing at Mt Diablo - Boy Scout Rocks (Top Roping / Sport)-All Levels Welcome

Hey guys! Let's do some outdoor climbing at Mount Diablo State Park. Let's make it there early to beat the rush. We will be climbing at the Boy Scout Rocks.

All skill levels are welcome. Just bring a good attitude! We will be setting up top ropes mainly. If anyone wants to sport climb, make sure you have experience. There is a wide range of climb difficulties to accommodate all skill levels.

All climbers please come with basic belay experience for TR. I'm fine teaching somewhat to get things moving, but let's all be comfortable with the basics.

What to bring:
-Shoes/Harness/ATC
-Snacks/Lots of water
-Helmet
-Positive attitudes! Let's have some safe/responsible climbing.
-rope/anchor gear if you have it

-***I'll be bringing 1 rope and anchor gear. Looking for 3 or more other ropes depending on total group size. The more ropes we get, the larger group we can support.

We will be meeting in the Rock City Parking Lot and climbing Boy Scout Rocks. Directions:
Boy Scout Rocks: In Danville, take the El Cerro Rd exit off 680 and follow it to Diablo Rd and then turn left to Mt Diablo Scenic Blvd and follow signs to the entrance kiosk. Park at the Rock City parking area a mile further.

To get to the parking lot at 8:30AM, depending on where you're coming from, you should plan to leave around 6:30-7AM. Let's set up carpools for this trip.

Here are some links to the climb spots. I'll be bringing my guide book. If you have one as well, bring it too.

Please only RSVP if you're sure that you can make it. If you RSVP and back out last minute, it's not fair to other BARC members who could've filled that spot. Please plan accordingly.

Hello, just wanted to say you guys were awesome! My partner and I met some of you at the wall, and despite being a big group, you were all very friendly, shared ropes, and left no trace behind =)

Hi ... I'm having the same trouble understanding the carpool situation from the thread below. Please respond by saying whether you're (1) offering or (2) requesting a ride — and to/from where.

In this vein: I need a ride. I live in the Mission, but I can meet people near any BART station. My schedule is entirely flexible.

    Thanks!!!

    October 24, 2013

    • Thomas L.

      Great, thanks guys.

      October 25, 2013

    • Brie

Yes, I will be picking up Niyant and Michael in Danville and will carpool us 3 to/from Diablo. See everyone tomorrow!

      October 25, 2013

  • Ed

Okay Tom, for now I will plan on driving
alone unless something changes with the group.
Thanks for coordinating everything. It takes a lot of work.

    1 · October 24, 2013

  • Thomas L.

Ok. Here's the deal with Carpooling:

People who said they are driving alone: Andrea, Brie

2 cars are coming from San Jose: (Josh and Me), (Jeff, Kim, and Rajesh)

1 car from San Francisco - Niyant: in the comments below you offered to give Michael a ride. If Vivek wants to carpool, then meet Niyant in SF and ride with them. So this car is (Niyant, Michael, Vivek)

Ed and Julian will be carpooling together from Easy Bay.

    Any questions/clarifications/comments/concerns?

Thomas - could I meet u guys at some spot in Danville, park my car and hop into yours or someone else's? Want me to bring my rope?

      October 24, 2013

  • Ken H.

Hey, I was wondering if there was any more room in the cars coming from the South Bay. I live in Redwood City but I can drive to a more convenient pick up location if necessary. It would be greatly appreciated!!

    October 24, 2013

    • Thomas L.

Yessir, and we'll be on the road by 6:45. See you then!

      1 · October 24, 2013

    • Brie

I can give someone a ride from South Bay. I still plan to meet at Thomas' first and leave from there at 6:45am as planned. I'm just leaving Mt. Diablo around 2pm after the climb to go back home to meet other obligations, that's all. See everyone Saturday.

      October 24, 2013

  • Ed

Hi! Just found out that Julian and I are car pooling together. Not a problem. Julian can you send me a number where I can call you and setup a meeting point and time. You can also just text me with the info to my cell at[masked]-9001. Looking forward to meeting.

Hey everyone - Has the car pool arrangement from SF been sorted out? I wasn't able to tell from the thread below. I live in the SOMA area but can meet anywhere in the city or bart line. Is there someone I should get in touch with to coordinate?

I may even have access to a rope that I could bring along. Realistically what time do we expect to leave Danville by? This may influence my ability to attend.

    October 23, 2013

    • Brie

I am hoping to leave by 2 or 3pm. I have 2 Halloween parties to attend starting at 5pm, and will need time to dress up in costume. I can still meet at Thomas' place at 6:30/6:45am, then follow your car, but drive separately so I can leave earlier after the climb. Also, I am happy to drive anyone back down with me, too, after the climb as long as you live along the way down the East Bay or South Bay.

Hi Brie - I live in SF (Soma) but if that does not work for you I can get off on the Bart line. Leaving at 2/3pm works for me as well.

      October 23, 2013

  • Michael S.

Hi everyone ... I would love a ride if anyone's going to be near SF or along a BART line. Otherwise, if we're really hard-up for cars I can rent a Zipcar. Let me know!

    October 23, 2013

    • Thomas L.

I'm assuming we'll have a couple cars from SF. Grace, Peter, Andrea - Please chime in and let us know if you can give Michael a ride. Thanks all!

Hey Michael - can you give me a call so we can coordinate -[masked]

      October 23, 2013

  • Thomas L.

Ok guys, climb is in 4 days. Time to figure out this carpooling situation; so everyone please chime in. So far we have that:

    -Ed is driving alone.

Coming from San Francisco we have 6 - Michael, Grace, Peter +1, Vivek, Andrea. Who from SF is willing to drive and take a few people? Julian is in Oakland;; so maybe could catch a ride w/an SF crew. Let's see who has room.

From South Bay/San Jose: James, Josh, Brie, and I are riding together. This leaves: Jeff, Kim, and Rajesh. Jeff/Kim - can you please coordinate a carpool, and if you have room, could you possibly pick up Rajesh in Pleasonton??

Ok guys - let's get some discussion going and figure this out. Finally - Jeff, Julian, and Ed have confirmed they are bringing ropes. Michael & Andrea - if you would please let me know if you're willing/planning on bringing ropes, I would greatly appreciate it.

    See you all soon.

    October 22, 2013

    • Jeff

I will be picking up Kim in Redwood City, have room for Rajesh and one more. Vivek, from Redwood City I will be taking the S.M. bridge so I could pick you up

      1 · October 22, 2013

  • Ed

I could probably meet Julian on Mt Diablo Blvd near Pleasant Hill Rd. I live in Fairfield off of I -680. My cell is[masked]-9001. Let me know.

    October 22, 2013

  • Michael S.

Hi I don't have a car so I need a ride from the Mission, or thereabouts. I do have a rope and quick draws and I can bring them.

    I'm excited!

    October 22, 2013

  • Amanda L.

sorry guys but i need to cancel.

    October 21, 2013

  • Thomas L.

Ok, so let's set up some carpools:
(please let us know if you need to drive alone for any reason, to facilitate carpool organization, thanks!)

***This is going off the cities listed in profiles***

San Francisco Area: We have Alex, Grace, Peter +1, Ed, Andrea, and Lori (Lori, from San Mateo, thinking you could just drive to SF and meet a carpool group.. up to you)

This is 7 for the SF area. 2-3 cars will be required depending on car size. Let's please get some driving volunteers and fill those cars up!

East Bay: I have Julian in Oakland and Amanda Luu in Lafayette. You two please coordinate. Julian, maybe you could pick up Amanda on your way in?

San Jose Area: We have James, Josh, Brie, and myself. I spoke with Josh who has an SUV with room for 4. So we only need one vehicle from South Bay.

Ok guys.. Let's get to it! :)

    October 17, 2013

    • Brie

Hi Thomas, Thank you for organizing and making this possible for us. Josh, since you are the driver, I think it's most considerate if we meet you wherever you decide is most convenient for you. Please post location. Will gladly pitch in for fuel, too, of course. Thanks.

      October 18, 2013

    • Brie

Got it. Thanks for the info.

      October 21, 2013

Looks like an awesome group! I have something going on in SF on Saturday, but I may swing by in the morning to say hi. Have fun!

Is Boy Scout Rocks really at S. Gate Rd as indicated on this meetup's map link? Or is it actually just right off of Mt. Diablo Scenic Blvd BEFORE you reach S. Gate Rd if heading NE on Mt. Diablo Scenic Blvd?

    October 17, 2013

    • Thomas L.

Mt Diablo Scenic Blvd will take you right to Rock City parking lot.

      October 17, 2013

    • Thomas L.

(I changed the address on the main thing... good idea)

      October 17, 2013

  • Ed

Hello Tom. What gear would you like me to bring?

    October 17, 2013

    • Thomas L.

Please bring your rope and and handful of anchoring gear. Extended slings aren't necessary for most anchors, but rather safe than sorry! thanks Ed.
