Lead&Future Lead Climbers-Let's Cimb Pinnacle's Discovery Wall/Monolith-Sat1/4

This meetup is for Lead Climbers and Top Ropers who want to break through.  These routes are the classics and there's plenty!!!  Please be Lead Climb/Belay certified or have experience.

Top Ropers who think they're ready to take the class, you won't get it here, but you can TR with us and pick up a thing or two. But, please communicate your abilities. Thanks :)

We'll meet at the Bear Gulch Day Use area parking lot at 9:30 am. Don't use this map because it doesn't show the road.  Use google and zoom way in or the road will not appear on the map.

I have this posted on two meetups: Bay Area Rock Climbing and my own Climb and Surf Adventures.

Btw make sure you have correct entrance if you go by GPS, West and East entrance are not connected by road, to get to East entrance from West you'd have to hike a bit or make a huge detour.

Thanks Sergey :) Since I don't currently use GPS, I didn't think of that.

Steve, is there a backup spot to meet if we don't quite make the 930 parking lot plan? I think cell reception is pretty bad there. Discovery wall first?

      January 3, 2014

    • Steve L.

Yes, Discovery wall first. We may have to split up groups if it's crowded.

Matt, It will be great to have you. It sounds like you have a lot of experience leading and with Pinnacles. Do you have any requests or input you would like to offer?

      December 29, 2013

    • Matt

Awesome! I'm excited to climb with everyone. I haven't climbed very much on the east side, just discovery wall and teaching rock. Lately I've been climbing the areas soon to be closed for raptor breeding. I've been looking at the yak's formation, but haven't been there and don't know if it works for a group this size.

Broke down and bought a 70 meter New England Glider dynamic rope; bi-pattern; double-dry, 10.2 mm (but feels like 9.8). Also picked up more quick draws (up to 17 now). Got slings. Buying cams and stoppers manana :)
    Happy New Years!
And Hey Mark! Glad you can join us!

How much of a leap is acceptable? I lead belayed a bit years ago, and lead sport 5-6 - 5-8. But that was a while ago so I might need some hand holding. What are the grades/is it trad or sport? It looks like mostly trad there for easier grades.

Along these lines, I just took the touchstone lead class but haven't got the cert yet. I'm down to just tr and learn through osmosis. Is that cool?
