Outdoor climbing at Mt Diablo!
It's one of the best outdoor spots central to the Bay Area and has top-roped climbs from around 5.7-5.12. There's potentially a few leadable climbs as well, but I've never tried them due to the fact that it's all sandstone in the area. Climbers of all skill levels are welcome :)
We'll meet around 9:30 off of S. Gate Road. If you're coming through Danville, take Mt Diablo Blvd up, maybe 15 minutes. You'll pass through a gate and have to pay a day-pass fee ($7 per car, I believe). After passing through the gate go about .5-1 mile and you'll see an interesting rock formation on your right with holes "carved" out of it, large enough to fit a person. The climbing areas are behind that formation, with the easiest descent being off to the right. There's a bit of parking off the road in the immediate area or you can head up to the parking lot a bit further up the road, maybe a 5 minute walk back. The climbs are within a 3 minute walk from the road
If anyone can carpool, it'd be great. I'm personally coming from the Peninsula and can carpool with anyone from SJ-Fremont easily. I'll be leaving around 8am.
There are no restrooms or running water in the immediate area, so bring plenty of water and food for the day.
For those of you that have rope & experience setting top ropes, please let me know in the RSVP.
We'll go for food & beer in Danville afterwords.
Feel free to e-mail me with any questions!
