New Meetup: Outdoor Climbing @ Castle Rock, Mon May 25th

Announcing a new Meetup for Bay Area Rock Climbing!

What: Outdoor Climbing @ Castle Rock

When: May 25,[masked]:30 AM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Meetup Description: Outdoor climbing! woo-hoo! I know it's only two days away, but it's my birthday and I can do what I want :) And hopefully get a group together and have some fun on rock!

Climbing at Castle Rock State Park, which is outside of Saratoga (an hour SW of San Jose). We'll meet at the parking lot around 8:30am and then hike in to Goat Rock, which is a bit over a 1 mile from the entrance.

Take 280 or 85 to Saratoga Ave and go SW. Continue on Saratoga Ave and it will eventually turn into Rt 9. Just keep going straight for about 7 miles and you'll hit Skyline Dr / Hwy 35. Turn left onto Skyline, go about 2 miles and the entrance to Castle Rock park will be on your right. There is free parking on the road immediately surrounding the entrance. If you go into the actual parking lot, parking is $6 or $7.

From the parking lot, go through to the right and you will see a sign pointing to Castle Rock falls and some other areas, one being a beach around 40 miles away. Just follow the signs from here towards Castle Rock Falls. Keep heading towards the falls until you cross over a small bridge following a downhill. The path will fork left and up/left. You want to take the upper trail here, I believe it says Goat Rock on the sign. Follow this another 15 minutes or so and you will arrive at Goat Rock. It's pretty obvious when you get there :)

What to Bring:
Climbing Shoes, Harness and a Belay device are necessary. Any Rope, Webbing and Quickdraws that you may have will also be appreciated. Goat Rock requires -LONG- extensions :)

Bring plenty of water. Goat Rock is fully exposed to the sun while climbing (there's shade when you're not) and even though the forecast is calling for a high of 60 deg right now, it may still feel quite warm, I'm not sure. And food :) And a camera, you'll definitely want a camera.

The climbs I'm planning on setting range from[masked]d and all of them are a lot of fun :) I'll set as many as we have ropes for, Ideally 6 or more.

It'd be great to carpool, even if only from Saratoga. I'll be coming from Menlo Park personally. There is an REI off of Saratoga Ave a few miles north of 85. I can be there around 7:45 if anyone wants to carpool from there.
