Explore the BCP at Night

  • Jun 20, 2013 · 8:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Enjoy the sights and sounds of the canyonlands as day turns to night during this guided interpretive hike. Many animals only come out at night to search for food. Others, like us, may change their patterns and become active in the evening when the heat of the day subsides. From frog choruses and coyote yips to a starry sky, we'll tune your senses to the sights, sounds, and smells of a Texas summer. And don't think just because it is dark it isn't a hike. Participants will follow a path from low creek crossings up slopes to a ridge top through a variety of habitats noisy and bustling with life at night.

Considerations:
Hiking boots are required. Participants should bring water to stay hydrated and will need to wear long pants, a lightweight long-sleeved shirt, and sturdy, closed-toe hiking shoes. More specific information will be provided on event confirmation. Limited to 15 individuals, ages 10 and up.

Emerged unscathed... no chigger or other insect bites. Thank you Mark & Louise. If I managed to remember these correctly... we heard the calls of the Painted Bunting, Nightjar (or Chuck-wills-widow), Rio Grande Leopard Frog, Blanchard's Cricket Frog and Gulf Coast Toad along with the cicada & cricket chorus. What a treat!

Very nice time; my first time out with BCP. I live close by and was excited at the opportunity to explore more into the Preserve. Personally I would have liked to have hiked further in than we did, but it was a nice place and I really have no complaints. Being in the evening helped with the hot weather some.

I was REALLY looking forward to meeting everyone, but my dad suddenly passed away on the 17th, and so his wife has decided to hold the services on the 29th. Please have fun without me...and I will get to meet y'all soon!
    Take care...Kay U

Sorry I won't make this one; made other plans since I had been on wait list. Hope to make the one in July.
